Application/Function of Cefuroxime Axetil Powder.

Cefuroxime Axetil Powder is indicated for use in adults with acute pharyngitis or tonsillitis, acute otitis media, maxillary sinusitis, acute attacks of chronic bronchitis, acute bronchitis, acute bronchitis due to sensitive strains of Enterobacteriaceae such as Streptococcus haemolyticus, Staphylococcus aureus (except methicillin-resistant strains) and Haemophilus influenzae, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acute Aspergillus, Simple urinary tract infection, skin soft tissue infection and uncomplicated Neisseria gonorrhoeae urethritis and cervicitis and pharyngitis or tonsillitis, acute otitis media and impetigo in children.

This product is suitable for the treatment of infections caused by sensitive strains of bacteria.

• 1. Respiratory tract infections: acute pharyngitis or tonsillitis, maxillary sinusitis, acute attacks of chronic bronchitis, acute bronchitis.
• 2. ENT infections: acute otitis media, acute pharyngitis, tonsillitis.
• 3. Urinary tract infections: simple urinary tract infections, uncomplicated Neisseria gonorrhoeae urethritis.
• 4. Skin and soft tissue infections.
• 5. Other infections: cervicitis, impetigo.

Pharmacological Effects of Cefuroxime Axetil Powder

This product is a second generation cephalosporin antibiotic. After oral absorption through the gastrointestinal tract, it is rapidly hydrolyzed into cefuroxime under the action of esterase and exerts antibacterial effects. The activity against Gram-positive cocci is similar to or slightly inferior to that of first generation cephalosporins, but appears to be quite stable against b-lactamase produced by Staphylococcus and Gram-negative bacilli.

Except for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus, Enterococcus spp. and Listeria spp., other positive cocci (including anaerobic cocci) are sensitive to this product. The antibacterial activity of this product against Staphylococcus aureus is worse than that of cefazolin. 1~2mg/L of this product can inhibit all penicillin-sensitive and resistant Staphylococcus aureus respectively.

It has strong antibacterial activity against Haemophilus influenzae, Escherichia coli and Aspergillus chimaerae are sensitive to this product; Indole-positive Aspergillus, Citrobacter spp. and Fusobacterium spp. are poorly susceptible to this product, most of Serratia spp. are resistant to this product, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Campylobacter spp. and Bacteroides fragilis are resistant to this product. The mechanism of action of this product is to inhibit the synthesis of bacterial cell wall.

Drug interactions of Cefuroxime Axetil Powder.

• (1)The combination of strong diuretics such as furosemide, etanercept and bumetanide, antineoplastic agents such as carazolamide and streptavidin and nephrotoxic drugs such as aminoglycoside antibiotics with this product may increase nephrotoxicity.
• (2) Clavulanic acid can enhance the antibacterial activity of this product against certain Gram-negative bacilli that are resistant to this product due to the production of β-lactamase.
• (3) The combination of this product with probenecid may increase the area under the drug-time curve (AUC) value of this product by approximately 50%.
• (4) Combination of this product with antacids may reduce the absorption of this product.
