(2003) showed that TRF (a mixture of α-tocotrienol-rich components extracted from palm oil) is a better antioxidant than α-tocopherol, which can effectively inhibit LDL oxidation and endothelial cell lipid peroxidation. Serbinova et al. (1991) showed that during the lipid peroxidation of rat liver microsomes, α-tocotrienol had much stronger antioxidant activity than α-tocopherol, and its ability to protect cytochrome P450 was also stronger than α-tocopherol. Tocotrienol also protects the rat heart from oxidative damage. Rat experiments have reported that in the lipid peroxidation induced by iron/ascorbate and iron /NADPH in liver microsomes, the antioxidant activity of α-tocopherol is 40 to 60 times that of α-tocopherol. Alpha-tocotrienol can more effectively remove free radicals from lipid cell membranes.
