Pharmacological action of cardamom extract.
1. Effects on intestinal motionCardamom crude extract can exert excitatory and inhibitory effects on intestinal tract through cholinergic and calcium antagonistic pathways respectively. The crude cardamom extract from 3 to 10mg/mL has excitatory effect on the isolated ileum of atropine-sensitive guinea pigs, and has diastolic effect on the spontaneous movement of jejunum in rabbits and the contractile movement induced by 80mol/LK+.
2. Gastric protective effects of methanol extract, volatile oil and methanol extract of cardamom were studied by inadministration of aspirin, ethanol and pylorus ligation in rats with gastric ulcer. The results showed that all extracts had significant protective effects on gastric injury induced by aspirin and ethanol in rats. Among them, the small polar part of the methanol extract has the most significant effect, and the activity of the methanol extract is better than that of ranitidine at the dose of 12.5mg/kg.
3. Anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects Cardamom water extract can promote spleen cell proliferation in a dose-dependent manner, and has a synergistic effect with black pepper. The results of enzyme-linked immunoassay showed that cardamom water extract could inhibit the release of Th1 cytokine from spleen cells and promote the release of Th2 cytokine, showing anti-inflammatory activity. It can also reduce the production of NO by macrophages. Cardamom volatile oil can significantly inhibit the swelling of the foot caused by diagonalenin and the writhing reaction caused by P-benzoquinone injection in mice.
4. Antioxidant activity Cardamom methanol extract can remove DPPH· free radicals with IC50 of 217.431mg/mL, showing good antioxidant activity.
