Triclosan Powder Usage and Synthesis.

Triclosan can be used in the following products: highly effective disinfectant or medicated soaps; antibacterial, deodorant and hygienic soaps; hygienic bath and antibacterial liquid detergents; antibacterial dishwashing detergents; antibacterial fabric detergents; deodorant products for armpits or feet; hygienic cleansing milks and antibacterial skin creams; antiseptic handwashing liquids; disinfectants for medical devices; wound disinfectants; air fresheners and deodorisers for refrigerators; and antimicrobial finishes for fabrics.

Uses of Triclosan.

Triclosan (Irgasan) is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent that inhibits type II fatty acid synthase (FAS-II) in bacteria and Plasmodium falciparum, as well as mammalian fatty acid synthase (FASN), and may also have anticancer activity.

It is used in the production of high-grade daily chemical products, disinfectants for medical and food industry instruments, and the preparation of antibacterial and anti-odour finishing agents for fabrics.

Pharmacological action of Triclosan.

Product Method of Bulk Triclosan Powder.

(1) Taking 2,4-dichlorophenol as raw material, 2,4-dichlorophenol reacts with potassium hydroxide to form potassium dichlorophenate. Then with 2,5-dichloronitrobenzene under the catalysis of copper powder, the reaction obtained 2,4,4‘-trichloro-2’-nitrodiphenyl ether. Further reduction with iron powder produces 2,4,4‘-trichloro-2’-aminodiphenyl ether, which is then diazotized and hydrolysed to give the product.

(2) Take o-methoxyphenol as raw material, potassium hydroxide powder and o-methoxyphenol (guaiacol), react to make o-methoxyphenol potassium salt. Reaction with bromobenzene methoxydiphenyl ether, chlorination through chlorine, to produce 2,4,4‘-trichloro-2’-methoxydiphenyl ether. Hydrolysis with AICI3 as catalyst to produce 2,4,4‘-trichloro-2’-hydroxydiphenyl ether.
