Cochineal Extract Powder Usage and Synthesis.

1. Carmine red can be used in lipstick, foundation, eye shadow, eyeliner, nail polish and baby products.

2. It can also be used in foodstuffs such as candies, beverages and meat products for colouring; it is generally used in the food industry for feed, wine, bread products, dairy products, candies and pickles, but its main limitation is that it can not be dissolved under low pH value.

3. In the pharmaceutical industry, it is used as the coating material of tablets and micro-pills and the colouring agent of capsule shell.

Uses of Cochineal Extract.

Carmine red can be used as food and cosmetic colouring, especially mouthwash, tooth powder, sprinkle powder, ointment, used for solid powder dosage form colouring, firstly dissolved in a small amount of concentrated ammonia solution, and then added to the powder, after a long time of grinding, since the distribution of the colour is uniformly distributed rendered with aluminium salt or tin salt, can be used to dye silk and wool into a bright red.

Female cochineal (Dactylopius coccus) is extracted with water, dilute alcohol solution or alcohol, aluminium hydroxide is added to the extract and it is precipitated. The molecular ratio of aluminium and carminic acid is l:2. It needs to be pasteurised or otherwise treated to destroy all salmonella bacteria before use in food.
