Calcium Gluconate Usage and Function.

Calcium gluconate is an important organic calcium, mainly used as a calcium fortifier and nutrient, buffer, solidifying agent, and chelating agent for food, and its application prospects are very broad.

1. Acute hypocalcemia Hypocalcemia refers to a serum calcium concentration below 2mmol/L. For acute hypocalcemia such as tetany, epileptic seizures, and laryngeal spasms, active intravenous calcium supplementation is required. It is recommended to use 10% calcium gluconate 10~20ml slow intravenous push, no more than 5ml per minute, which usually makes the symptoms disappear immediately; if the symptoms recur, the dose can be repeated after a few hours.
2. Hypermagnesemia Hypermagnesemia refers to serum magnesium above 1.25mmol/L. Hypermagnesemia mainly occurs in patients with renal dysfunction. Long-term use of magnesium-containing antacids and magnesium sulfate catharsis, especially in patients with renal dysfunction, can lead to hypermagnesemia.

Treatment of mild hypermagnesemia usually involves limiting magnesium intake. Uses of Calcium Gluconate.

1. As a food additive, it is used as a buffer, a solidifying agent, a chelating agent, and a nutritional supplement. According to the "Sanitary Standards for the Use of Food Nutrition Fortifiers" (1993) issued by the Ministry of Health of China, it can be used in cereals and their products, beverages, and its dosage is 18-38 grams or kilograms.

2. As a drug, it can reduce capillary permeability, increase density, maintain normal excitability of nerves and muscles, strengthen myocardial contractility, and help bone formation.

It is suitable for allergic diseases such as urticaria; eczema; pruritus; contact dermatitis, as well as serum sickness; angioneurotic edema as an auxiliary treatment.
