Sodium Tripolyphosphate Usage and Function.

Sodium tripolyphosphate aqueous solution is weakly alkaline (1% aqueous solution of the PH value of about 9.7), it is in the PH of 4.3 ~ 14 range of water, the formation of suspensions (similar to the role of emulsion), that is, the role of dispersion. Sodium tripolyphosphate can also make liquid, solid particles better dissolved in liquid (such as water) medium, so that the solution appearance completely transparent, as if the real solution, which is solubilising effect. Because of the above unique properties of sodium tripolyphosphate, making it an important and ideal raw material for laundry detergent.

Uses of Sodium Tripolyphosphate.

It is used as high efficient water softener for cooling water treatment in power stations, rolling stock, boilers and fertiliser plants. It has strong ability to complex Ca2+, 19.5g of calcium can be complexed per 100g, and due to the chelating effect and adsorption and dispersion of SHMP, it destroys the normal growth process of calcium phosphate crystals, and prevents the formation of calcium phosphate scale. The dosage is 0.5mg/L, and the rate of preventing scaling is 95%~100%.

Sodium tripolyphosphate is used in detergents, as an auxiliary, soap synergist and prevent bar soap crystallisation and frosting, industrial water softener, tanning pre-tanning agent, dyeing auxiliaries, oil wells digging mud control agent, paper with oil pollution prevention agent, paint, kaolin, magnesium oxide, calcium carbonate and other suspensions to deal with effective dispersing agent. Edible grade sodium tripolyphosphate can be used as food improver for various fish and meat products, clarifying agent for beverages.

Sodium tripolyphosphate is traditionally prepared by neutralising hot phosphoric acid with a mass fraction of 75% of H3PO4 in a suspension of soda ash to produce a neutralised slurry with Na/P of 5:3, which is held at 70°C to 90°C; after which the slurry obtained is sprayed into a polymerisation furnace to be dehydrated at high temperatures and condensed into sodium tripolyphosphate at about 400°C.

Recrystallisation method

Dissolve industrial sodium tripolyphosphate in water at 60~70℃, prepare a solution of 17%~22%, and filter to remove insoluble impurities; then the product is obtained by vacuum concentration, cooling crystallisation, separation and drying.
