Platycodon grandiflorum extract is the dried root extract of Platycodon grandiflorum Platycodongrandiflorum (Jacq.) A.DC., the main active ingredient is saponins, and also contains flavonoids, polysaccharides and anthocyanosides, fatty acids and fatty oils, trace elements and amino acids.

Pharmacological Effect of Platycodon Grandiflorum Extract.
1. Hypoglycaemic effect
In normal rabbits, 200 mg/kg of aqueous or alcoholic extract of Platycodon grandiflorum can reduce blood glucose, similar to that of toluene sulfobutylurea.
Experimental tetrachloropyrimidine diabetic rabbits also have hypoglycemic effect, and can inhibit the rise of food glucose, the reduction of hepatic glucose in the drug is also seen in the recovery, of which the effect of alcoholic extract is stronger than that of aqueous extract.
2. Expectorant, cough suppressant effect
The ethanol extract of Platycodon grandiflorum and the aqueous decoction of the root can reduce the excretion of phenol red in the stomach, and have very significant expectorant effect. 3.Anti-tumour and antioxidant effects
Petroleum ether extract of Platycodon grandiflorum root has antioxidant effect, and the results of tetramethyl azole salt (MTT) colourimetric test show that the extract shows strong cytotoxicity in vitro against human colorectal cancer cells HT-29, ileo-caecal cancer cells HRT-18, and hepatocellular carcinoma cells HepG2.
The study showed that Platycodonopsis saponin D has the activity of significantly inhibiting the proliferation of human breast cancer cells (MCF-7) and human acute promyelocytic leukaemia cells (HL-60 cells). The specific mechanism of action and the structure-effect relationship of the anti-tumour activity of Platycodonopsis saponins need to be further investigated.
4、Antibacterial effect
Platycodon grandiflorum aqueous infusion and decoction with test tube dilution method, 1:10 in vitro on the flocculent epidermolysis bullosa has inhibitory effect.
