Propyl Gallate Powder Usage and Synthesis.

Propyl gallate is a drug that belongs to the classifications of circulatory drugs, antithrombotic drugs, and antiplatelet agents. It works by inhibiting platelet aggregation and thrombosis to prevent cardiovascular diseases. The drug is available in the form of tablets, capsules, softgels, etc.

Uses and Function of Propyl Gallate.

Propyl gallate is a feed antioxidant which is allowed to be used in our country and widely used abroad. It can also be used in edible fats and oils, fried foods, biscuits, instant noodles, quick-cooked rice, canned nuts, dried fish products and preserved meat products, with a maximum use level of 0.1g/kg.

The antioxidant ability of lard is stronger than BHA or BHT, and the antioxidant effect is the strongest when it is mixed with BHA or BHT by adding synergist. The antioxidant effect of single face products is not as strong as BHA and BHT.

This product is a food and feed additive.

It is used as the pit oxidant of grease and lard, with strong antioxidant effect, but it has the disadvantage of colouring, and the dosage is 0.1g/kg or less. The dosage is 0.1g/k or less. When used as feed antioxidant, the maximum dosage is 100ppm, it can also be used in cosmetics. Oral LD50 for rats is 3.8g/kg.

Characteristic of Propyl Gallate.

Propyl gallate is white to light brown crystalline powder, or slightly milky white needle crystals. Odourless, slightly bitter, aqueous solution is tasteless. Sublimation at high temperature, soluble in ethanol, propanol, ether, chloroform, slightly soluble in water. It is purple or dark green when interacting with copper and iron ions.PG is insoluble in water, slightly soluble in cotton seed oil, peanut oil and lard.

The PH value of its 0.25% aqueous solution is about 5.5. Propyl gallate is relatively stable, when encountered with copper, iron and other metal ions to colour reaction, change to purple or dark green, hygroscopicity, unstable to light, decomposition, poor resistance to high temperature.

Product Method of  Bulk Propyl Gallate Powder.

Obtained by esterifying gallic acid with propanol. Add gallic acid, propanol, benzene, sulphuric acid and p-toluenesulphonic acid into glass-lined reaction pot, heat and dehydrate, recycle benzene, leave it for 2h, pour it into water and leave it for another 24h. Dump filtration to get the crude product, which is dissolved in ethanol, filtered, and then add the filtrate into the water to be crystallised, filtered, and dried to get the finished product.
