Industrial use of p-Anisic Acid.
Methyl anisate
Put anisic acid, methanol and concentrated sulfuric acid into a round-bottom flask in a certain molar ratio, install a spherical condenser, heat with a water bath, and reflux at 96-100°C. After the reaction is completed, remove the condenser and change it to a distillation device to evaporate the excess methanol.
When the residual liquid in the round-bottom flask is cooled to room temperature, neutralize it with a saturated sodium carbonate solution until the residual liquid is neutral. At this time, white crystalline methyl anisate precipitates, and filter it to obtain a crude product. The crude product is subjected to vacuum distillation, and the 160°C/20mrnHg fraction is collected to obtain a refined product.
Ethyl anisate
Put anisic acid, anhydrous ethanol, concentrated sulfuric acid and benzene into a round-bottom flask in a certain ratio, shake well, add zeolite, install a water separator, and connect a reflux spherical condenser to the upper end of the water separator. Heat the round-bottom flask with water latently and reflux at 96-100°C. After the reaction is completed, continue to heat with a water bath.
The excess benzene and ethanol were evaporated into the water separator. The residual liquid in the flask was cooled to room temperature, neutralized with saturated sodium carbonate to neutrality, and the oil layer was separated with a separatory funnel; the water layer was extracted with ether three times, the ether and the oil layer were combined, and dried with anhydrous magnesium carbonate for two hours. Afterwards, the ether was evaporated with a water bath, and then under reduced pressure, the 136-137°C/13mmHg fraction was collected to obtain ethyl anisate.
