Mupirocin, also known as Pseudomonas aeruginosa A, is an ideal antibacterial agent for the skin surface, which was introduced to the market by GlaxoSmithKline in 1985 under the trade name of "Bactroban". The US FDA approved the use of this drug in the United States in 1987, and China approved the production and sale of this drug by CMS Pharmaceuticals in 1993. Mupirocin is mainly used for the prevention and treatment of bacterial skin infections caused by gram-positive cocci.

Uses and functions of Mupirocin.

Topical antibiotic. Blocks isoleucine senescence by reversibly binding to isoleucine transfer RNA synthetase, thereby halting the synthesis of all isoleucine-containing proteins in the cell. Used for acute primary bacterial infections of the skin, such as folliculitis and impetigo.
