Semen Hoveniae Extract Usage and Synthesis.

Hovenia dulcis extract is extracted from the dried mature seeds of Hovenia dulcis, a member of the Ranunculaceae family, and contains flavonoids such as kaempferol, psoralen, populin, quercetin, hydroprospermosin, and anthraquinones such as rhododendron. It has the effects of anti-lipid peroxidation, protection against liver damage, alcohol detoxification, anti-hepatic fibrosis and anti-aging and anti-fatigue, etc.

Uses of Semen Hoveniae Extract.

Hovenia dulcis extract is a heat-clearing medicine, and its main function is to quench thirst and eliminate vexation, clear dampness and heat, and detoxify alcohol. Hovenia dulcis extract can be used to treat alcohol poisoning, thirst and vomiting, and bowel movements.

Hovenia dulcis contains a large amount of water, fiber, carbohydrates, ash, thiamin, ascorbic acid, potassium, sodium, calcium, iron, zinc, phosphorus, and other components, as well as malic acid, oxalic acid, acetic acid, and other substances. Intravenous injection of 3.4~6.7mg/kg of Hovenia dulcis water extract will cause the average arterial pressure of normal anesthetized cats to decrease by 13~27mmHg; intravenous injection of 0.2~0.4mg/kg of Hovenia dulcis n-butanol extract aqueous solution will cause the average arterial pressure of normal anesthetized cats to decrease by 22~24mmHg. Intravenous injection of 0.2~0.4mg/kg of Hovenia dulcis ethyl acetate extract aqueous solution has no effect on the average arterial pressure of normal anesthetized cats. Normal anaesthetised cats mean arterial pressure has no effect.

6. Enhance the effect of overall physical performance

Hovenia dulcis aqueous extract can significantly improve the cold and heat resistance of mice and extend the time of mice swimming and climbing. The conclusion shows that Hovenia dulcis extract has the effect of enhancing the overall physical performance of mice.

7. Alcohol effect

Hovenia dulcis extract can antagonise the long-term intake of ethanol-induced decrease in liver ADH, SOD, GST enzyme activity, resulting in a decrease in MDA content, with a decongestant effect on the liver.

Extraction and separation of Bulk Semen Hoveniae Extract Powder.

Take 20.0kg of dried mature Hovenia dulcis, crushed into coarse powder, extracted with 70% ethanol percolation. Extract was concentrated under reduced pressure to no alcohol flavour, to obtain the total extract 1.8kg.

To the extract add the appropriate amount of water suspension, in turn with petroleum ether, ethyl acetate and n-butanol extraction, recovery of solvent to obtain petroleum ether extract (108g), ethyl acetate extract (450g), n-butanol extract (120g).

The n-butanol extract (100 g) was eluted by silica gel column chromatography with gradient elution of chloroform-methanol system, and five fractions were combined by TLC, and fractions 3 and 4 were obtained by ODS, SephadexLH-20 column and preparative HPLC to obtain the compounds 1 (66 mg), 2 (7.5 mg), 3 (67 mg), 4 ( 28 mg), 5 (15 mg), 6 (23 mg) and 7 (20 mg).

3', 5'-di-C-β-D-glucose- rhizopodophyllin (1), isopimelin 2-O-β-D-glucoside (2), pimelin 2-O-β-D-glucoside (3), isospiritin (4), populin 3-O-β-D-glucoside (5), L-tryptophan (6), and pentosanic acid (7) respectively.
