Application/Function of Cholesterol Powder.
- Cholesterol is related to human tissues, bile acids and hormones, and is an important substance indispensable for animal tissue cells. It is not only involved in the formation of cell membranes, but is also a precursor for the synthesis of bile acids, steroid hormones and vitamin D3.
- It comes from two sources, exogenous from the diet and endogenous from the body's own synthesis. When exogenous cholesterol increases, it can feedback inhibit its endogenous synthesis. Dietary fat aids in the absorption of cholesterol.
- It is metabolized to bile acids or steroid hormones. Its absorption also depends on intake, and high intake reduces the percentage of absorption; human absorption of cholesterol is below 10% at high levels of intake, and the rest is excreted through the feces. Dietary cholesterol is absorbed into the bloodstream in the form of celiac particles.
- Since it is insoluble in water, it is transported in the blood in the form of bound lipoproteins. The physiological functions of cholesterol are to form cell membranes, nerve myelin sheaths, brain, and to be converted into bile acids and steroid hormones.
- Two main types of lipoproteins are involved in cholesterol transport: namely, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and high-density lipoprotein (HDL).
- The former transports it from the liver to the tissue cells throughout the body, while the latter transports it from the tissue cells to the liver.
- The level of cholesterol in human blood reflects the overall metabolic status of cholesterol in the body. The total cholesterol level in fasting blood plasma of normal adults ranges from 2.83 to 5.17 mmol/L.
- Abnormal cholesterol metabolism tends to cause cholesterol deposits in the inner walls of blood vessels, forming atherosclerosis and causing coronary heart disease and strokes.
Production method of Cholesterol Powder
The preparation of dry brain powder with livestock brain tissue as raw material take fresh animal brain and spinal cord (remove fat and spinal cord membrane), grind and dry at 40-50℃ to obtain dry brain powder.
Brain (pig, cow, sheep) [40-50 ℃] → the preparation of dry brain powder crude cholesterol crystals dry brain powder with 1.2 times the amount of acetone maceration, constant stirring, extraction 4.5h, repeated extraction 6 times, filtration, combined extract, distillation recovery of acetone, to obtain a yellow solid matter. Add 10 times of ethanol, heat reflux for 1h, get cholesterol ethanol solution, filter, cool the filtrate at 0-5℃, let it stand, precipitate the crystals, filter, get crude cholesterol crystals.
Dried brain powder [acetone] → yellow solid [ethanol] → cholesterol ethanol solution [0-5℃] → crude cholesterol crystals preparation of refined cholesterol take crude cholesterol crystals plus 5 times the amount of ethanol, add 5%-6% sulfuric acid, heating reflux 8h, to obtain hydrolysis solution, 0-5℃ cooling, precipitation of crystals, filtration, to obtain crystals, wash to neutral with ethanol.
Add 10 times of 95% ethanol and 3% activated carbon to the neutral crystals, heat reflux and decolorize for 1h, keep warm and filter, cool the filtrate at 0-5℃ and crystallize, repeat 3 times, filter, collect the crystals, press dry, evaporate the ethanol and vacuum dry at 70-80℃ to get refined cholesterol. Crude cholesterol crystals [ethanol, H2SO4] → [8h] hydrolysis solution [0-5℃] → crystals [ethanol, activated carbon] → [1h] refined cholesterol.
