    S-Carboxymethyl-L-cysteine/ Carbocisteine is a respiratory mucolytic agent. Its action is similar to that of bromhexine in that it causes the disulfide bond of mucin in sputum to be cleaved, thereby reducing the viscosity of sputum and increasing the mucus fibres in sputum, lubricating the bronchial lining, increasing the secretion of low viscosity salivary mucin and reducing the production of high viscosity rockweed mucin, thereby reducing the viscosity of sputum and making it easier to cough up.

    Preparation of Carbocysteine Powder.

    Preparation of S-Carboxymethyl-L-Cysteine: L-cysteine is prepared as disodium salt aqueous solution, reacted with chloroacetic acid in the presence of sodium metabisulfite, first at 20-30℃ for 0.5h, then at 20℃ for 15min, activated carbon is added to the reactants, filtered, and the filtrate is acidified with concentrated hydrochloric acid to pH2.5, which generates carboxymethylstain precipitate. Filtered, washed with water and dried under vacuum, the finished product was obtained. In terms of L-cysteine, the yield is 92%.

    The condensation of L-cysteine hydrochloride with chloroacetic acid is obtained.

    Condensation of L-cysteine hydrochloride hydrate 79g (0.45mol) dissolved in 200ml distilled water, put in ice saline bath, cooled to 0-5 ℃, slowly add 20% NaOH solution 180ml (0.9mol), chloroacetic acid 180ml (0.46mol), the reaction for 3h, remove the ice saline bath, put on the water bath to maintain 50 ℃, the reaction for half an hour .

    After the reaction, adjust the pH to 5 with HCl (to facilitate the removal of oxidation products), and add activated carbon, heat and keep warm at 50-55℃, stir continuously for half an hour, filter while hot, take the filtrate, and adjust the pH to 3 with HCl, cool the crystals, filter the crystals to obtain the crude carboxymethyl cysteine. Refine the above crude product and dissolve it with HCl, adjust the pH to 1, keep the temperature 0-5℃, then adjust the pH to 3 with NaOH, and crystallize with stirring.

    Filter the crystals and wash them with cold distilled water until there is no C1-, then dry the crystals to obtain S-Carboxymethyl-L-Cysteine fine.
