manufacturer lactose powder CAS 63-42-3 | Ausreson

Product Overview:
Lactose is a disaccharide that occurs naturally in mammalian milk. It is secreted by the mammary glands of mammals and exists only in the animal kingdom. Molecular formula C12H22O11, it is a disaccharide composed of glucose and galactose, i.e. it is obtained by the glycosidic bond between the hydroxyl group on the fourth carbon atom of glucose and the hydroxyl group of the first carbon atom of the β-semiacetal of galactose, which is lost into water. Thus the reductive nature of the aldehyde group contained on the glucose molecule is still maintained.

Lactose Powder Usage and Synthesis.
Lactose is a disaccharide found primarily in mammalian milk.
It can be obtained by extracting whey from milk, treating it with heat or adding milk of lime, then concentrating, cooling, crystallizing, and drying. The main uses of lactose are as a nutritive sweetener, excipient, dispersant, flavoring agent and nutrient.
It is widely used in food, confectionery, baked goods and other fields. Lactose can also be used with other food additives such as bittering agents, thickening agents, enzymes and so on.
In addition, lactose has some medicinal value and can be used as a medicinal excipient.
The extraction and production methods of lactose include the natural crystallization method in a flat pot and the forced crystallization method in a crystallizer with interlayer water cooling.

Applications in Food & Nutrition
1. Diet and Sports NutritionIn the Sports Nutrition industry, precision is everything. Whether you are formulating Whey Protein Isolate (WPI) blends or mass gainers, Lactose serves as the perfect carrier.
-
Standardization: It standardizes protein content across batches.
-
Texture: It improves the mouthfeel of powdered beverages.
-
Agglomeration: Instant Lactose varieties ensure the powder disperses easily in water, preventing clumping .
One of the most demanding applications is Pharma Lactose.
-
Dry Powder Inhalers (DPIs): Specific grades like Inhalation Lactose (often controlled via Laser Diffraction particle sizing) act as carrier particles for APIs.
-
Direct Compression: Tableting Lactose provides excellent hardness and low friability for supplements like multivitamins or Magnesium tablets.
In Bakery applications, lactose is a reducing sugar. It enhances the Maillard reaction, giving bread and cookies their golden-brown color without adding excessive sweetness

Pairing Lactose with High-Performance Ingredients
To maximize SEO value and cross-selling opportunities, it is vital to understand how Lactose interacts with other trending Bulk Food Ingredients:
-
Whey Protein Isolate (WPI) & Whey Protein Concentrate (WPC): While WPC contains inherent lactose, adding pure Lactose Powder allows manufacturers to adjust the carbohydrate profile and sweetness of mass gainers without using sucrose .
-
Galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS): Derived from lactose, GOS is a prebiotic booming in the functional food sector. Some clinical studies highlight GOS’s role in modulating gut microbiota, presenting an "upcycled" value proposition for Lactose suppliers .
-
Milk Minerals (Calcium Caseinate): Often used alongside lactose in protein bars to improve texture and nutritional profile.

Product Method of Bulk Lactose Powder.
Produced from milk whey (containing about 5% lactose) by heating or adding lime milk treatment, removing protein and then concentrated, cooled, crystallized and dried. Yield rate of about 60% to 70%.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: Is lactose powder the same as regular sugar?
A: No. While both are carbohydrates, lactose is less sweet (approx. 20% the sweetness of sucrose) and has a lower glycemic index. This makes it ideal for reducing sweetness in high-protein bars while keeping the bulk .
Q2: Can I use lactose powder in Keto-friendly products?
A: Generally, no. Lactose is a carbohydrate. For keto products, Keto Friendly formulations usually avoid lactose. However, for "Bulking" in standard sports nutrition, it remains a staple.
Q3: What is the shelf life of sealed lactose powder?
A: When stored in a cool, dry warehouse away from strong odors, the shelf life is typically 2 years (730 days) from the date of manufacture .
Q4: Is this product suitable for vegan applications?
A: No. Lactose is derived from milk (animal source). For plant-based buyers, we recommend our Organic Tapioca Fiber or Maltodextrin as alternatives.
Q5: What is the difference between Mesh 40 and Mesh 200?
A: Mesh size refers to particle size. Mesh 40 is coarser, ideal for blending and flowability. Mesh 200 is a fine powder, used for direct compression tableting or where rapid dissolution is required .
