Product Overview:
Ferrous sulphate is strongly acidic and extremely corrosive. It is usually soluble in water, and when chloride ions are present in the solution, a brownish precipitate, also known as rusty iron sulfate, is formed. Ferrous sulphate crystalline hydrate is heptahydrate at room temperature (i.e.: ferrous sulphate heptahydrate), heptahydrate is blue monoclinic crystal, losing six crystalline water at 64~90℃, completely dehydrated at 300℃ and partially decomposed at the same time, corrosive, weatherable in dry air, easily oxidised by humid air. Soluble in water (48g/100mL) and methanol, slightly soluble in ethanol.

Ferrous Sulfate Usage and Synthesis.
Ferrous sulphate is an inorganic metal salt substance, which can be used as nutritional supplement (iron fortifier); fruit and vegetable colouring agent; it can also be used in the production of iron salts, iron oxide pigments, mordant, water purification agent, preservative, disinfectant and so on, and as anti-anaemia drug in medicine.
Uses of Ferrous Sulfate.
(1)Ferrous sulphate is used in the production of iron salts, iron oxide pigments, mordants, water purifiers, antiseptics, disinfectants, etc., and as an anti-anaemia drug in medicine.
(2)Ferrous sulphate is used for flocculation and purification of water, as well as removal of phosphate from municipal and industrial sewage to prevent eutrophication of water bodies. ①As a strong reducing agent, it can reduce hexavalent chromium to trivalent chromium in chromium wastewater of electroplating plant, and it can also replace many heavy metal ions in wastewater. ② As a flocculant with fast settling speed, large sludge particles, small and dense sludge volume, especially for printing and dyeing and textile industry wastewater has a good decolourisation effect. (3)It can generate water-insoluble precipitates with sulphide and phosphate, and then remove sulphide and phosphate.
(3) Nutritional supplement (iron fortifier); fruit and vegetable colouring agent. Such as burnt alum used in aubergine pickled products can form a stable complex salt with its pigment, to prevent discolouration caused by organic acids. However, it should be noted that if the amount of iron is too much, it will become black ink colour, and if the amount of alum is too much, the flesh of pickled aubergine will be too solid. Recipe example: 300kg of aubergine, salt 40kg, ferrous sulfate 100g, burning alum 500g.
Still can be used as black beans, sugar boiled broad beans, kelp and other colouring agents. Containing more tannin food, in order to avoid causing black change, should not be used. Can also be used for sterilization, deodorisation, but the bactericidal power is very weak. Beans contained in the cryptochrome pigment in the reduced state of colourless, alkaline oxidation is black, the use of ferrous sulfate reductive, can achieve the purpose of colour protection, the amount of 0.02% to 0.03%.
