Function of norvaline.
Arginase Inhibition:
Indirectly elevates blood arginine concentration and promotes nitric oxide (NO) synthesis by competitively binding to the active site of arginase and reducing urea production.
Potential Applications: May improve blood flow or exercise performance by enhancing vasodilatation (requires clinical validation).
Metabolic disrupting effects:
Interferes with the urea cycle and may lead to accumulation of blood ammonia (hyperammonemia) and risk of metabolic disorders.
