Camphor Powder Usage and Synthesis.
Camphor colourless to white translucent block or powder, with camphor odour, the use is relatively wide. In medicine, camphor is used as nerve stimulant and local stimulant, which can be used in cooling drugs such as 10-drop water and Rendan; it can also be used in the preparation of mint, white lemon and nuts and other food flavours, as well as the preparation of eau de toilette, daily cosmetics and other daily-use flavours.
In addition, a large number of camphor used in celluloid and photographic film, used as a stabiliser for the manufacture of smokeless gunpowder, and the manufacture of sodium camphor sulfonate production materials.
Uses of Camphor.
Widely used in medicine, plastics industry and daily life to prevent insects, moths and odour.
It is an important basic raw material of medicine and chemical industry, can be used as plasticiser, used in the production of plastics, false ivory, varnish, explosives, insect repellent, antiseptic and so on.
It is used in the production of celluloid, film, artificial ivory, flavour, etc. It is also used in the production of rubber, electric insulating materials, aircraft parts, etc.; it can also be used as the explosive stabilizer of smokeless gunpowder in the arms industry, pesticide in the pesticide industry, stimulant, cardiac stimulant, ten drops of water, coolant, antipruritic agent and mothproofing and anticorrosive agent in the clothes and books of the pharmaceutical industry.
Pharmacological Effect of Camphor.
1. Local effect: camphor applied to the skin has mild stimulation and antiseptic effect. It has the effect of redness when rubbed with force; when lightly coated, it is similar to mint, and has the feeling of coolness, which is due to the stimulation of the cold sensory receptors. It also has mild local anaesthetic effect.
For the mucous membrane of gastrointestinal tract, camphor has a stimulating effect, making the stomach feel warm and comfortable, and a large number of them can produce nausea and vomiting. Clinically, camphor rub has analgesic and antipruritic effects. Orally, it has the effect of driving away wind and slight expectorant effect.
2. The role of the central nervous system: the systemic effect of camphor is mainly to stimulate the central nervous system, especially significant for the higher centre, a large number of role in the cerebral cortex motor area and brain stem, causing epileptiform convulsions.
The general dose of camphor has no obvious effect on respiration, and some respiratory excitation can be seen under extreme inhibition, mainly due to the reflex excitation caused by stimulation of receptors during subcutaneous injection.
Product Method of Bulk Camphor Powder.
1. Camphor oil purification method camphor exists in camphor tree, take camphor tree's trunk, roots, branches, leaves by steam distillation of camphor oil, its decompression fractionation to get oleocanthal and various essential oils, oleocanthal by sublimation and purification of refined camphor.
2. Synthetic method takes turpentine as raw material, extracts pinene, gets camphene by isomerisation, and then gets camphor by esterification, hydrolysis and dehydrogenation. Camphene esterification reaction can be carried out in a glass-lined reaction pot.
Under the catalysis of sulfuric acid, camphene is esterified with acetic acid or formic acid, the reaction temperature is 38℃, when adding sulfuric acid, it keeps 45-48℃, and the time of dropping sulfuric acid is 2-3h. After the reaction is finished, 40% liquid alkali is added, and isoborneol is obtained by reacting at 140℃, 0.2-0.25MPa for 6-8h. After the reaction is completed, add 40% liquid alkali, and react at 140°C for 6-8h to obtain isoborneol.
After dissolved in xylene and washed with water, then dehydrogenated to camphor under the action of alkaline copper carbonate, add appropriate amount of slaked lime during the reaction to make it in slightly alkaline. The crude camphor obtained from dehydrogenation is purified by sublimation, and synthetic camphor is obtained. According to GB4895-85, the content of first grade camphor is ≥96%, melting point 174℃. Raw material consumption quota: turpentine 1700kg/t, acetic acid 600kg/t.
