    Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose is a propylene glycol ether of methyl cellulose, in which the hydroxypropyl and methyl are combined with ether bond and anhydrous glucose ring of cellulose, it is a white to off-white cellulose powder or particles, and it has the characteristics of solubility in cold and insolubility in hot water similar to that of methyl cellulose. Solubility in organic solvents is better than water solubility, it can be dissolved in anhydrous methanol and ethanol solution, and also in chlorinated hydrocarbons and ketones and other organic solvents.     A propylene glycol ether of methyl cellulose in which both hydroxypropyl and methyl groups are bound by ether bonds to the anhydrous glucose ring of the cellulose. The ratio of methoxy to hydroxypropyl content varies from type to type.

    White to off-white fibrous powder or granules. Soluble in water and some organic solvents. Insoluble in ethanol, aqueous solution has surface activity, drying to form a film, after heating and cooling, in turn, undergo a reversible transformation from sol to gel.

    Product Method of Bulk Hydroxypropyl Methyl Cellulose Powder.

    100kg of refined short cotton lint was immersed in 45% lye at a temperature of 35-40°C for 0.5-1.0h, and then removed for pressing. Press until the weight is 2.7 times the weight of cotton lint, stop pressing. Crush and loosen.

    Aging at 35 ℃ for 16h. Put the above aged alkali fiber into the reactor, add chloromethane, propylene oxide in turn, and react at 80 ℃, pressure of 1.8MPa for 5-8h, then add appropriate amount of hydrochloric acid and oxalic acid in hot water at 90 ℃ to wash the material, so as to make the volume expansion.

    Dewatering with centrifuge. Wash to neutral, when the moisture content in the material is less than 60%, dry it with 130℃ hot air flow to less than 5% water content. Finally crushed through a 20-mesh sieve to get the finished product.
