Sodium Cyclamate Raw Materials CAS 139-05-9
Product Overview:
Sodium cyclohexylaminosulfonate, or sweetener for short, is a commonly used food additive that is 30 to 40 times sweeter than sucrose. However, if consumers often consume beverages or other foods with excessive levels of sweetener, it can cause harm to the human liver and nervous system due to excessive intake, especially to the elderly, pregnant women, and children whose metabolism and detoxification ability are weaker, the harm is more obvious. Therefore, the state attaches great importance to food safety and has formulated numerous food additive-related industry standards.

Sodium Cyclamate Raw Materials CAS 139-05-9 Details
Sodium Cyclamate Powder Usage and Synthesis.
Sodium cyclohexyl sulfamate, also known as sweetener, is a commonly used food additive that is 30-40 times sweeter than sucrose. However, long-term consumption of foods with excessive levels of sweetener may cause damage to the liver and nervous system, especially to the elderly, pregnant women, and children with weaker metabolic detoxification abilities. In 1973 and 1982, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) petitioned twice to reinstate the use of sweeteners, but neither time was approved.
In addition, the use of sweetener is controversial. Some fruit growers have revealed that fruit traders may use heavy metal solutions (e.g., arsenate) instead of sodium cyclohexylaminosulfonate in order to sweeten citrus and bring them to market earlier. This practice is not only harmful to health, but may also cause harm to fruit growers and consumers.
Uses of Sodium Cyclamate.
Used as a sweetener for food processing and as an additive in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and feeds
Sweeteners are the more commonly used non-nutritive synthetic sweeteners. It is not absorbed in the body, does not produce heat and is not cariogenic. The taste is close to sucrose, often mixed with sodium saccharin (10:1), which can mask the bitter flavor of sodium saccharin.
It can be used in Chenpi, talking plums, dried prunes and plums, with a maximum use level of 8.0g/kg; in candied fruits with a maximum use level of 1.0g/kg; and in sauces, flavored sauces, prepared wines, beverages, popsicles, ice cream, ice-cream, pastries, cookies and breads with a maximum use level of 0.65g/kg.
This product is about 30 times sweeter than sucrose. Dilution of 1:10,000 (sucrose 1:140, saccharin 1:50,000) can still be perceived as sweet. It is used in various applications as a non-nutritive sweetener. The concentration used should not exceed 0.4% to moderate the bitter flavor.
According to China's GB2760-86, it can be used in refreshing beverages, ice cream, pastries and candied fruit. According to GB2760-89, it can also be used as additives for sauces, seasoning sauces, prepared wines, pastries, cookies and pasta colors.
Pharmacological effect of Sodium Cyclamate.
Product Method of Bulk Sodium Cyclamate Powder.
Cyclohexylamine and sulfur trioxide synthesis method
Trimethylamine and sulfur trioxide are first dissolved in a perchloroethylene solvent and then mixed and reacted to produce a suspension of trimethylamine-sulfur trioxide complex. This suspension is then added to an aqueous solution of cyclohexylamine and sodium hydroxide and reacted at 60~70°C to form sodium cyclohexylaminosulfonate.
Alternatively, 40 g of liquid SO3 was dissolved in 200 mL of CH2C12 and added dropwise to 150 mL of a solution dissolved in 56 g of triethylamine at -I0°C. After addition, the reaction was carried out at a constant temperature for 15 min to produce a triethylamine sulfur trioxide complex. Equimolar cyclohexylamine was added dropwise at 20°C and reacted for 1 h. After the reaction was complete, 250 mL of 10% NaOH solution was added and reacted for 1 h at 60°C. The aqueous layer was concentrated and cooled.
Separate the aqueous layer concentration, cooling, crystallization, pumping filtration, drying to get the product, yield about 95%. In addition, Japan Nitto Chemical Company used the process route of gas phase reaction of sulfur trioxide and cyclohexylamine.
