Benzyl Alcohol Raw Materials Powder CAS:100-51-6
Product Overview:
Benzyl alcohol, also known as benzyl alcohol, molecular formula C6H5CH2OH, density 1.045g/mLat25°C(lit.), is the simplest phenyl-containing aliphatic alcohol, can be regarded as hydroxymethyl-substituted benzene, or phenyl-substituted methanol. It is a colorless transparent viscous liquid with a weak aromatic odor, sometimes benzyl alcohol in the long term, because of oxidation slightly with benzaldehyde bitter almond breath. Polar, low toxicity, low vapor pressure, so used as an alcohol solvent.

Benzyl Alcohol Raw Materials Powder CAS:100-51-6 Details
Benzyl Alcohol Powder Usage and Synthesis.
Benzyl alcohol mainly exists in the form of free form or ester in essential oils, such as jasmine oil, ylang ylang oil, Succinium aromatic oil, hyacinth oil, moon oil, Peru balsam and Tulu balsam contain this component.
Benzyl alcohol should not be stored for a long time, it can be slowly oxidized to benzaldehyde and anisole in the air, so commercially available benzyl alcohol products are often characterized by benzaldehyde almond flavor. In addition, benzyl alcohol can be easily oxidized to benzoic acid by a variety of oxidants (such as concentrated nitric acid).
Benzyl alcohol has an anesthetic effect and is a strong irritant to the eyes, skin and respiratory system, and is harmful if swallowed, inhaled or in contact with the skin. Ingestion causes headache, nausea, vomiting, gastrointestinal irritation, convulsions, coma, and in severe cases, death.
The LD50 for rats is 1230 mg/kg.After entering the body, benzyl alcohol is first oxidized to benzoic acid, then condensed with glycine in the liver and excreted as horse uric acid. The use of benzyl alcohol as a solvent by intramuscular injection may result in gluteal muscle contracture.
Uses of Benzyl Alcohol.
Benzyl alcohol is used as a preservative in ointments, as a desiccant for fibers, nylon filaments and plastic films, as a stabilizer for polyvinyl chloride, as a photographic developer, as a solvent for acetate, inks, paints, lacquers, epoxy coatings, dyes, casein, wormwood and gelatin, and as an intermediate in the preparation of benzyl esters or ethers. It is also used in the preparation of spices and flavorings (mostly benzyl alcohol esters of fatty acids) for use as additives in soaps, perfumes, cosmetics and other products.
Because with quartz and wool fibers have almost the same refractive index, so used as quartz and wool fiber identifier. Benzyl alcohol is used as a scent fixative and diluent in the fragrance industry. The hydroxyl group of benzyl alcohol is very active, and it can react with benzene to form diphenylmethane, with acrylonitrile to form N-benzyl acrylamide (Ritter's Reaction), and with phosphorus halides and hydrohalic acid to form benzyl halide.
Both benzyl halides and benzyl alcohols are benzyl (phenylmethyl) chemistry reagents used to give benzyl protecting groups to carboxylic acid and alcohol hydroxyl groups. The benzyl protecting group is easily removed by hydrogenation.
In addition, benzyl alcohol is readily oxidized to benzoic acid by a variety of oxidizing agents and, if oxidized with nitric acid, can produce aldehydes or acids depending on concentration and temperature.
Pharmacological effect of Bulk Benzyl Alcohol Powder.
Product Methods of Benzyl Alcohol.
It is obtained by taking benzyl chloride as raw material and hydrolyzed by heating under the catalytic effect of alkali. Spice grade benzyl alcohol specifications (QB792-81): relative density 1.041-1.046, refractive index 1.538-1.541, boiling range 203-206 ℃ distillation above 95%, solubility all dissolved in 30 times the volume of distilled water, alcohol content ≥ 98%, chlorine-containing test (N.F.) as a side reaction. Raw material consumption quota: benzyl chloride 1600kg/t, soda ash 1000kg/t.
