Hydroxyapatite, also known as hydroxyapatite, is a natural mineralization of calcium apatite (Ca5(PO4)3(OH)). Its molecular formula is Ca5(PO4)3(OH), but it is often written as Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2 to indicate a crystal structure consisting of two molecules. Hydroxyapatite is the pure positive end member of apatite containing hydroxide. The OH- ion can be replaced by fluoride ions, chloride ions or carbonate ions to form fluorapatite or chlorapatite.
