Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is very high in the human central nervous system brain and spinal cord, which is more than 1000 times higher than the brain monoamines such as catecholamine, norepinephrine, dopamine, etc., which is the highest in the substantia nigra and the pallida pallida, and about 20% to 40% of the synapses in the brain are GABA as a transmitter. GABA is a major inhibitory transmitter in the brain and spinal cord of the central nervous system, but it cannot cross the blood-brain barrier.
GABA becomes baclofen by attaching para-chlorophenyl to carbon atoms, changing from a hydrophilic substance to a lipophilic one, thus allowing it to cross the blood-brain barrier.
