Lutein Usage and Synthesis.
1, progesterone can maintain the pregnancy of female animals, and lead to a series of physiological changes in pregnant animals, such as inhibiting female estrus.
2, promote the thickening of the uterine mucosa, the curvature of the glands and the increase of secretory function.
3, inhibit the peristalsis of the uterus, and make the cervix contract, secrete viscous liquid, etc. These physiological changes provide suitable environmental conditions for the operation, growth and development of the early embryo and the continued growth of the fetus after implantation.
4. A small amount of progesterone and estrogen cooperate to promote estrus of female animals. Progesterone and prolactin cooperate to promote the development of breast glands.

Preparation of Lutein.
Product method of Lutein.
It is obtained by oxidation of pregnenolone. Add the dry toluene into the dry reaction pot, add cyclohexanone and pregnenolone, stir to dissolve, steam the toluene to the end of dehydration, quickly add aluminum isopropyl alcohol, oxidation reaction at 115℃ for 2h, cooling to about 80℃, add 5% dilute sulfuric acid under agitation, stand stratification, separate the water layer, toluene layer washed with water to neutral, steam distillation, and steam out toluene and cyclohexanone. Cooling, filtration, filter residue with petroleum ether into a slurry, filter, wash with petroleum ether, dry progesterone crude. The crude product was dissolved in ethanol, decolorized with activated carbon and recrystallized with a yield of 80%.
