    In recent years, pharmacological studies in the United States and Europe have shown that chicoric acid has the ability to enhance immune function, anti-inflammatory effects, and can inhibit hyaluronidase and protect collagen III from free radicals that can lead to degradation. Recent studies have also shown that chicoric acid inhibits HIV-1 and HIV-1 integrase.

    The traditional extraction process of chicory acid is the hot reflux extraction method, which has a low extraction rate of chicory acid; at the same time, the traditional extraction method will also cause the destruction of heat-sensitive active ingredients, which is unfavourable to the extraction of chicory acid.

    In recent years, a series of progresses have been made in the research of supercritical CO2 fluid extraction technology in the fields of natural products, food, spices, medicine, chemical industry and environmental protection.

    The dry paste produced by the traditional extraction process has low yield, low chicoric acid content and large quality fluctuation, while the dry paste produced by supercritical CO2 extraction process has much higher yield and stable quality.

    The optimum process conditions were as follows: extraction pressure of 30MPa, extraction time of 2h, extraction temperature of 60℃, CO2 flow rate of 25kg-h-1, and extraction of chicoric acid by adding 10mL-g-1 of 40% ethanol as the entraining agent, which has the advantages of high extraction rate, good purity of the product, and simple process.

    Weighing 100g of Echinacea purpurea dry powder (60 mesh), placed in the extraction cylinder, according to the process conditions required by the experimental design, adding a certain amount of entraining agent, set the extraction pressure, extraction temperature, extraction time, CO2 flow rate of Echinacea purpurea dry powder supercritical carbon dioxide extraction, carbon dioxide gas from the upper part of the extraction cylinder, decompression and separation, to get the extract solution, filtration, vacuum concentration, to get the extract. After filtration, the extract was concentrated in vacuum to obtain the dry paste of the extract.
