Rhamnose is widely distributed in plants as a trace sugar. It is present in many phytosides (e.g. quercetin, isohypericin, etc.), polysaccharides, especially pectins and gums, and in laccase toxins as a bound sugar.
Rhamnose can be used to determine intestinal permeability, can be used as a sweetener, can reduce Fehling (Fehling) solution, and sodium amalgam to produce rhamnol. Can be hydrolyzed from the yellow rhamnoside (Xanthorhamnin) and quercetin rhamnoside (Quercitin).

Preparation of L-rhamnose Monohydrate.
The traditional method of producing rhamnose is to extract it from natural plants, such as Quercetin from oak bark, Naringin from citrus peel or Vitamin A from Tochigi bark.
These substances contain rhamnosyl groups in their molecules and can be hydrolyzed to obtain rhamnose. Pure rhamnose is then obtained by extraction and other chemical unit process operations.
Rutin (quercetin-3-o-glucose-o-rhamnose) is hydrolyzed in 2% dilute H2SO4 at constant boiling for 2 h. A mixture of rhamnose and glucose as well as quercetin can be obtained.
Hydrolysis: put rutin in a round-bottomed flask, add 30 times the amount of 2% dilute H2SO4, install the reflux device, heating and constant boiling reflux about 2h, the bottle material from light yellow to bright yellow.
Stop heating reflux, cool the bottle, filter (slag is quercetin), decolorize the filtrate with activated carbon, and neutralize with Ca(OH)2.
Fermentation: Pour the neutralized hydrolysis solution into the fermentation flask, add yeast dry powder and incubate at constant temperature.
