Panthenol Raw Materials Powder 16485-10-2
Product Overview:
Panthenol is a vitamin B5 derivative used in the cosmetic industry. It can be categorized into miscible (DL-type), dextro (D-type), and levulose (L-type), of which only the dextro form, D-panthenol, is biologically active. Panthenol has excellent moisturizing properties in skin care, and can directly infiltrate the stratum corneum to increase stratum corneum water content and reduce transdermal water loss. In addition, panthenol promotes wound healing and helps regenerate the skin's epidermal barrier.

Panthenol Raw Materials Powder 16485-10-2 Details
Panthenol Powder Usage and Synthesis.
Panthenol is a common cosmetic ingredient with high mildness, good permeability, small molecule, etc. It is often used as a moisturizer, lubricant, osmotic promoter, emollient, skin protectant, etc. in cosmetics, shampoo, health food, pharmaceuticals, feed and other fields.
Panthenol can be categorized into three types: miscible (DL-type), dextrorotatory (D-type) and levorotatory (L-type), of which only dextropanthenol is biologically active.
In the cosmetic industry, panthenol is mainly D-panthenol. Panthenol is an essential nutrient for the skin. When the organism lacks pantothenic acid, it can lead to skin keratinization, roughness, peeling, and even skin ulcers.
Panthenol also has excellent moisturizing properties, increasing the water content of the stratum corneum and reducing transdermal water loss. In addition, panthenol promotes wound healing and helps regenerate the skin's epidermal barrier.
Uses and functions of Panthenol.
Panthenol, also known as pantethol or vitaminogen B5, is a commonly used cosmetic ingredient. Panthenol has excellent moisturizing properties and is able to reduce transepidermal water loss by directly infiltrating the stratum corneum and increasing its water content.
In addition, panthenol is widely used in shampoos and conditioners to penetrate into the interior of the hair for long-lasting hair moisturization. Panthenol is categorized into three isomers: dextrorotatory (D-type), mixtrorotatory (DL-type), and levorotatory (L-type), of which only the dextrorotatory (D-type) is physiologically active.
DL-panthenol ethyl ether, a racemic mixture of panthenol ethyl ether, has 50% of the physiological activity of D-panthenol ethyl ether and is mainly used in the production of general cosmetics.
In contrast, D-panthenol ethyl ether is a physiologically active dextro-stereoisomer, which is mainly used in the pharmaceutical industry and the production of high-grade cosmetics. Therefore, the applications of DL-panthenol ethyl ether and D-panthenol ethyl ether in cosmetics are different.
Pharmacological effect of Panthenol.
A pantothenic acid precursor, dexpanthenol acts as a precursor to acetyl coenzyme A, which is required for acetylation reactions during gluconeogenesis and acetylcholine production. It is thought that the administration of high doses of dexpanthenol ensures adequate acetylcholine and therefore prevents postoperative intestinal obstruction. However, a study in normal horses did not show any effect of dexpanthenol on peristalsis.
