Acesulfame K Usage and Synthesis.
Acesulfame can be used to produce a variety of tabletop sweeteners in the form of flakes, granules, powders and solutions.
Due to its good solubility in water, acesulfame can be formulated into highly concentrated solutions of household tabletop sweeteners. Under normal storage conditions, there are no shelf-life problems with solutions. Solid and powdered tabletop sweeteners are commonly used in hot beverages, and at such high temperatures acesulfame dissolves exceptionally well and is highly stable.
When acesulfame is used on its own, beverages can be satisfactorily sweetened with as little as 800 to 1,000 mg/L or less. As it contains no calories and does not participate in human metabolism, it is particularly suitable for diabetics and people who need low-energy healthy food.
Uses of Acesulfame K.
The product has a strong sweetness, which is about 130 times sweeter than sucrose, and the flavouring properties are similar to those of saccharin. It has bitter taste in high concentration.
