Metformin HCL Powder Usage and Synthesis.

The mechanism of action of Metformin HCL in lowering glucose is as follows:

1. Increase insulin sensitivity of peripheral tissues and increase insulin-mediated glucose utilisation.

2. Increase glucose utilisation in non-insulin-dependent tissues, such as brain, blood cells, renal medulla, intestines and skin.

3. Inhibits hepatic gluconeogenesis and reduces hepatic glucose output.

4. Inhibit glucose uptake by intestinal wall cells.

5. Inhibit cholesterol biosynthesis and storage, reduce blood triglyceride and total cholesterol level.

Uses and functions of Metformin HCL.

Clinically, metformin hydrochloride is mainly used for the treatment of type II diabetes mellitus patients with unsatisfactory dietary control alone, especially those who are obese and accompanied by hyperinsulinaemia, with this drug not only has the effect of hypoglycemia, but also may have the effect of reducing body weight and hyperinsulinaemia.

For some patients with poor efficacy of sulfonylureas can be effective, such as with sulfonylureas, small intestine glucosidase inhibitors or thiazolidinediones glucose-lowering drugs in combination, the effect is better than that of the respective single use.

It can also be used in insulin-treated patients to reduce insulin dosage.
