In a rat model of biliary depressions, ObeticholicAcid promotes bile flow and protects hepatocytes from LCA-induced acute necrosis.
In WD-fed DBA mice, ObeticholicAcid (p.o.) ameliorated proteinuria and altered renal structure and modulated renal inflammation and oxidative stress.
In thioacetamide (TAA)-intoxicated and bile duct ligated (BDL) rats, ObeticholicAcid (30 mg/kg p.o.) restored the downstream signalling pathway of FXR by decreasing the total IHVR and reduced portal pressure without producing deleterious systemic hypotension.

Obecholic acid, as a prescription drug, has a number of effects and effects. The synthesis of obeticholic acid started from cheap and readily available goose deoxycholic acid, 7α-OH of goose deoxycholic acid was selectively oxidised to 7-carbonyl by PCC reagent at room temperature in the medium CHCl3/Cl2CH2 to produce compound 1; in the same medium CHCl3/Cl2CH2, compound 1 was reacted with 3, 4-dihydro -2H pyran to produce compound 2; compound 2 was alkylated by ethyl iodide (Et-I) in the presence of n-butyllithium (n-BuLi) and the enolated structure LDA/HMPA to produce 6-ethyl, and then pyridine p-toluenesulfonate (PPTS) to produce compound 3; and the stereoselective reduction of compound 3 from the backside by sodium borohydride (NaBH4) to produce compound 6-ethyl Goose Deoxycholic Acid, or Obeticholic Acid.
