Scopolamine Hydrobromide Powder Usage and Synthesis.

Uses and functions of Scopolamine Hydrobromide.
Anticholinergics. Scopolamine is the most pharmacologically potent alkaloid in belladonna and is used to block parasympathetic nerves and as a central nervous system agent. The action is similar to belladonna alkaloids, but stronger and more transient. It can be used for anaesthesia and analgesia, relieving cough and asthma, and is effective in motion sickness, as well as controlling rigidity and tremor in Parkinson's disease.
A muscarinic acetylcholine antagonist commonly used for scopolamine-induced memory deficits in experimental animals.
Pharmacological Effect of Scopolamine Hydrobromide.
Product Method of Bulk Scopolamine Hydrobromide Powder.
Scopolamine is obtained by extracting scopolamine from flowers. The Chinese herbal anaesthetic preparation of crocus sativus, originating from the famous doctor Hua Tuo's Ma Bo San in the 2nd century A.D., has scopolamine as its active ingredient. The crude powder of digitalis was percolated with ethanol at 50°C until the exudate was almost free of alkaloids. The percolated solution is distilled under reduced pressure to recover ethanol, the resulting extract is extracted with sulphuric acid, the extract is adjusted to pH 9-10 with sodium carbonate, extracted with chloroform, the extract is distilled to recover the chloroform to obtain the total alkaloids, and then separated and salted to obtain this product. Total yield 0.15 per cent for the flower of the flower.
Scopolamine and hydrobromic acid reaction into salt, then crystallised and refined.
