The urethrin A precursor compound (8.0 g) and AlCl3 (8.83 g) were reflow reacted overnight in chlorobenol (60 ml) solution. The water layer was extracted with ethyl acetate, and the resulting organic layer was concentrated under vacuum. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (10% ethyl acetate/hexane) to obtain the target product.
