Cephalosporin antibiotics for veterinary use Ceftiofur Hcl Powder Details
Ceftiofur Hcl Powder Usage and Synthesis.
Cephalosporin is contraindicated in persons with a history of hypersensitivity to cephalosporin. Cephalosporin cross-reacts with other endocannabinoid antibiotics (e.g., penicillins, cephalosporins, carbapenems), and therefore should be used with caution in those who are allergic to the above antibiotics. Systemic antibiotics should not be given orally to patients with sepsis, shock or other serious illnesses, as the absorption of the drug from the gastrointestinal tract slows down or decreases significantly at this time, and the drug should be given by injection (static injection is preferred).
Uses and functions of Ceftiofur Hcl.
Ceftiofur Sodium / Ceftiofur Hydrochloride is indicated for the treatment of respiratory diseases (transport fever, pneumonia) in cattle caused by Pasteurella haemolytica, Pasteurella multocida, Haemophilus somnolentis, both in lactation and non-lactation.
Ceftiofur sodium can be used for equine respiratory disease caused by Streptococcus equi subspecies pestis, and ceftiofur hydrochloride can be used for hoof rot in cattle. In pigs, both are used to control/treat bacterial pneumonia.
Ceftiofur sodium is also indicated for respiratory disease in sheep and goats and for susceptible urinary tract infections in dogs, and is potentially useful in the treatment of other small animal infections, as well as for use in newborn chicks and turkeys.
Pharmacological Effect of Ceftiofur Hcl.
Ceftiofur hydrochloride is rapidly decomposed into furoic acid and defuranoyl ceftiofur, which is active and inhibits cell wall synthesis in sensitive proliferating bacteria (phase III), and has an antimicrobial spectrum similar to that of cefotaxime. Ceftiofur has a wide antimicrobial range in vitro and is effective against many pathogens, including Bartonella, Streptococcus, Staphylococcus, Salmonella, Escherichia coli and many other genera.
