Benzoic Acid Raw Materials powder Benzoic Acid
Product Overview:
Benzoic acid, also known as benzoic acid, molecular formula for C6H5COOH, carboxylic acid directly connected to the carbon atom of the benzene ring of the simplest aromatic acid, is a hydrogen on the benzene ring by the carboxylic acid (-COOH) instead of the formation of compounds. It is colorless and odorless flaky crystal. Melting point 122.13 ℃, boiling point 249 ℃, relative density 1.2659 (15/4 ℃). Rapid sublimation at 100 ℃, its vapor has a strong irritant, easy to cause cough after inhalation.

Benzoic Acid Raw Materials powder Benzoic Acid Details
Benzoic Acid powder Usage and Synthesis.
Benzoic acid is generally often used as a drug or preservative, has the effect of inhibiting the growth of fungi, bacteria and molds, medicinal use is usually applied to the skin to treat ringworm-type skin diseases. It is used in synthetic fibers, resins, paints, rubber, and tobacco industries. Initially benzoic acid is produced by dry distillation or alkaline hydrolysis of benzoin gum, or by hydrolysis of horse urine acid.
Industrially benzoic acid is produced by oxidizing toluene with air in the presence of cobalt, manganese and other catalysts; or decarboxylated by hydrolysis of phthalic anhydride. Benzoic acid and its sodium salt can be used as an antibacterial agent for latex, toothpaste, jam or other foodstuffs, and as a mordant for dyeing and printing.
Uses and functions of Benzoic Acid powder.
Benzoic acid is an important acidic food preservative. Under acidic conditions, it has an inhibitory effect on molds, yeasts and bacteria, but has a weak effect on acid-producing bacteria.
The optimum pH for bacterial inhibition is 2.5 to 4.0, and it is generally preferable to be below pH 4.5 to 5.0. In the food industry, the maximum use of concentrated fruit and vegetable juice in plastic drums shall not exceed 2.0g/kg; in jam (excluding canned), fruit juice (flavor) drinks, soy sauce, vinegar, the maximum use of 1.0g/kg; in fudge, wine, fruit wine, the maximum use of 0.8g/kg; in the low-salt pickles, sauces, candied fruits, the maximum use of 0.5g/kg; in the carbonated beverages, the maximum use of 0.2g/kg. Since benzoic acid is slightly soluble in water, a small amount of ethanol can be used to dissolve it.
Benzoic acid is an important acid feed preservative. Under acidic conditions, it has inhibitory effect on molds, yeasts and bacteria, but its effect on acid-producing bacteria is weak. The optimum PH for bacterial inhibition is 2.5-4.0, and it is generally preferable to be below PH 4.5-5.0.
Benzoic acid and its sodium salt are important preservatives for food. Under acidic conditions, the inhibition of yeast and mold, pH 3 when the antibacterial force is strong, while pH 6 when the effect of many molds is very poor, so its inhibition of bacterial optimal pH value of 2.5-4.0.
Benzoic acid is mainly used in the production of sodium benzoate food preservatives, dye intermediates, pesticides, plasticizers, mordants, pharmaceuticals, spices, but also used as alkyd resins and polyamide resins modifiers, used in the production of polyester raw material terephthalic acid and used as a rust preventive agent for steel equipment.
Used in the production of pharmaceuticals, dye carriers, plasticizers, spices and food preservatives, etc., and also used to improve the performance of alkyd resin coatings; used as an intermediate in pharmaceuticals and dyestuffs, used in the production of plasticizers and spices, etc., and also used as a rust preventive agent for steel equipment.
Pharmacological effect of Benzoic Acid powder.
【Pharmacodynamics】 This product is a disinfectant and antiseptic, with antibacterial effect; in acidic environment, 0.1% concentration has antibacterial effect. Usually lower pH is better, such as pH3.5, 0.125% concentration can kill staphylococcus within 1 hour. The effect is weakened under alkaline environment. Topical application can resist superficial fungal infections. The concentration of 0.05-0.1% can be added to pharmaceutical preparations or food as a preservative, which can inhibit the growth of bacteria and fungi.
Pharmacokinetics] Oral rapid absorption from the digestive tract, combined with glycine in the liver to form horse uric acid, the latter within 12 hours of rapid excretion from the urine, in the first 4 hours to reach the dosage of 97%. If the oral dose is large, part of the benzoyl glucuronide that can be coupled is excreted from the urine.
【Indications】For superficial fungal infections, such as tinea corporis, tinea cruris and tinea pedis, etc.; also used as a preservative for food and pharmaceutical preparations.
【Usage and dosage】Tincture or ointment is often prepared with salicylic acid at a concentration of 6-12% for the treatment of superficial fungal infections of the skin. Apply externally to lesions twice a day as a preservative for pharmaceutical preparations and food at an effective concentration of 0.05-1%.
【Adverse Reactions】 Oral administration may cause allergic reactions such as asthma, urticaria and angioedema. Contact dermatitis can occur when applied externally. Larger doses orally can cause salicylate-like reactions.
Product Method of Bulk Benzoic Acid powder.
It was originally produced by dry distillation of benzoin gum or hydrolysis with alkaline water, and it can also be produced by hydrolysis of horse urine acid. The industrial production methods of benzoic acid include toluene liquid-phase air oxidation, hypobenzyltrichloride hydrolysis and phthalic anhydride decarboxylation, with toluene liquid-phase air oxidation being the most common.
Toluene and air are passed into the reactor containing cobalt naphthenate catalyst, and the reaction is carried out under the conditions of reaction temperature 140-160℃ and operation pressure 0.2-0.3MPa to produce benzoic acid, and the crude benzoic acid is obtained by evaporating the un-reacted toluene, and then the finished product is obtained by distillation under reduced pressure and recrystallization.
The final product obtained by decarboxylation with phthalic anhydride is not easy to be refined, and the production cost is high, so it is only used in the manufacturing process of pharmaceuticals and other products with a small batch size.
The product of toluene chlorination method is not suitable for food application. Benzoic acid has different specifications for industrial use, food use and pharmaceutical use. Food grade should be in accordance with GB1901-80, the content of 99.5% or more, melting point 121-123 ℃, and easy oxides, easy carbons, chlorine-containing compounds, scorch residue, heavy metals, arsenic content and other quality indicators have been stipulated.
Raw material consumption quota: toluene 1140kg/t, cobalt naphthenate 4kg/t. In addition, benzoic acid can be by-produced when benzaldehyde is produced from toluene.
