Pharmacological Effect of Tripterygium Wilfordii Extract.
1. Insecticidal and bacteriostatic effects of the alcoholic infusion and ether extract of Radix Rehmanniae can kill flies, maggots, pear leaf star caterpillars and leafrollers and other pests. The ethyl acetate extract (T1) of the peeled root of Lei Gong Deng, total alkaloids, and Lei Gong Deng erythropoietin have inhibitory effects on Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, and Mycobacterium 607.
2. The effect on smooth muscle Lei Gongteng alcohol extract has an excitatory effect on rabbit uterine smooth muscle, which can make the contraction of in situ uterus strengthened. It also excites guinea pig intestinal smooth muscle, and strengthens the contraction of isolated ileum.
3. Anti-inflammatory effect of Lei Gongteng extract on rat egg white, formaldehyde and adjuvant arthritis has obvious inhibitory effect. The anti-inflammatory effect of total glucoside and total alkaloids of Lei Gong Teng is the same as that of raw medicine.

Lei Gongteng or Lei Gongteng ketone can increase plasma corticosterone content, reduce adrenal cholesterol content in rats, and reduce adrenal cholesterol content in rats. For unilateral adrenalectomised rats Regulus can promote the compensatory hypertrophy of their contralateral adrenal gland.
The ethyl acetate extract of Radix Rehmanniae significantly reduced adrenal vitamin C content in rats, and this effect could be blocked by dexamethasone and sodium pentobarbital.
Clinical application of ethyl acetate extract of Radix Rehmanniae for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis resulted in a significant increase in urinary 17-hydroxycorticosteroids in patients in whom the treatment was effective.
