Sodium sulfadiazine powder Usage and Synthesis.

1. For the prevention and treatment of epidemic meningitis caused by sensitive meningococcal bacteria.

2. It is used to treat acute bronchitis, mild pneumonia, otitis media and skin soft tissue infection caused by sensitive bacteria.

3. Used to treat astronocardiosis.

4. It can be used as a second-choice drug for the treatment of cervicitis and urethritis caused by chlamydia trachomatis.

Uses of Sodium sulfadiazine.

Sodium sulfadiazine is mainly used for the treatment of patients with meningitis caused by sensitive Neisseria meningitidis. It can also be used to treat:

1. Acute bronchitis and mild pneumonia caused by Haemophilus influenzae, streptococcus pneumoniae and other streptococcus to which it is sensitive.

2. Stellar nocardia.

3. Adjunct to chloroquine-resistant falciparum malaria treatment.

4. Treatment of toxoplasmosis caused by toxoplasmosis muris with pyrimethamine.

Pharmacological action of Sodium sulfadiazine.

Sodium sulfadiazine is a medium acting sulfanilamide antibiotic, which has antibacterial effect on many G+ and G- bacteria. It is also active in vitro against Chlamydia trachomatis, Nocardia asteroides, Plasmodium and Toxoplasma gondii. However, in recent years, the drug resistance of bacteria has increased, especially streptococcus, Neisseria and Enterobacteriaceae bacteria. For meningitis caused by sensitive Neisseria meningitidis, acute bronchitis or mild pneumonia caused by sensitive Haemophilus influenzae, Streptococcus pneumoniae and other streptococci, astrocardiosis, and adjuvant treatment of chloroquine-resistant falciparum malaria, in combination with pyrimethamine for treatment of toxoplasmosis caused by toxoplasmosis muris.
