Xuan Ginseng Extract is a heat-clearing herb also known as Black Ginseng, Wild Lipid Hemp, and Original Ginseng. It has a slightly cold character and belongs to the lung, stomach and kidney meridians. 

The main function of Xuan Shen Extract is to cool the blood and nourish yin, diarrhoea and detoxification, and it can be used to treat symptoms such as fever and yin injury, redness of the eyes, sore throat, scrofula, diphtheria, carbuncle, swollen sores and poisons. For internal use, it can be decocted in soup, 9~15g each time, and can also be used in pills and powder. When used externally, it can be pressed or powdered to apply.

Uses of Figwort Root Extract powder.

Xuan Shen Extract is the extract of the root of Xuan Shen Scrophularianingpoensis Hemsl, family Xuan Shen, with the effects of clearing heat and cooling the blood, detoxifying, dispersing nodules and inducing pharynx, and nourishing yin.

It is used for: warm-heat disease where heat enters the camp and blood, and heat disease injures the yin. It is effective in clearing heat and cooling blood, detoxicating and nourishing Yin. For the treatment of warm-heat disease, heat enters the camp and blood, Chemicalbook injures the yin to rob the liquid caused by the body heat and thirst, sleeplessness at night, the tongue is red, can be used in combination with Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata, Rhinoceros Horn, Salviae Miltiorrhizae and other medicines, such as clear camp soup; for the treatment of warm-heat disease, heat sinks into the pericardium of the Zhuang heat, fainting and delirious, can be used in combination with Rhinoceros Horn, Lianxiao heart, Maitong and other medicines, such as Qinggong soup; for the treatment of warm-heat disease, fever and spotting, can be combined with Gypsum, Rhinoceros Horn, Zhimu and other medicines, such as the chemical spot soup.

Pharmacological Effect of Figwort Root Extract powder.

1. Anti-myocardial ischemia: 75% ethanol extract of Radix Panax ginseng can lower blood pressure of anesthetized cats by 40.5% on average, significantly increase the flow of coronary artery in isolated rabbit heart and increase the uptake of rubidium in mouse myocardium; mildly inhibit heart rate, cardiac contractility, and enhance hypoxic endurance of mice, and it has a protective effect against acute myocardial ischemia in rabbits.

2. Anti-atherosclerosis: Ginseng extract can significantly reduce the level of cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein in the model of atherosclerosis, improve the ratio of high-density lipoprotein to low-density lipoprotein, inhibit the overexpression of arterial NF-кB, and inhibit the thickening of arterial wall of the model rats.

3. Anti-cardiac hypertrophy: The aqueous extract of XuanShen can reduce the amount of myocardial Hyp in rats, inhibit the hypertrophy of cardiomyocytes, reduce the cross-sectional area of left ventricular cardiomyocytes, and have a significant inhibitory effect on both cardiomyocytes and interstitial collagen remodelling, which embodies a very good inhibition of ventricular remodelling.

Further studies found that XuanShen could significantly reduce the cardiac index of animals, myocardial angiotensin II, aldosterone content, as well as reduce the overexpression of angiotensin II receptor type 1 gene, thus speculating that the mechanism of action of XuanShen to improve ventricular remodelling may be closely related to the inhibition of myocardial angiotensin II, aldosterone production and the expression of angiotensin II receptor type 1 gene.

A similar mechanism of action could also be used to indicate the efficacy of XuanShen in preventing cardiac hypertrophy.
