It inhibits angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) in the RAA system, prevents the conversion of angiotensin I or angiotensin II, and inhibits aldosterone secretion to reduce water and sodium retention. It is used for hypertension and also for patients with heart failure who have failed to respond to diuretic and digitalis-based therapy.
