Fenbendazole is used to kill gastrointestinal parasites in animals, it not only has high anthelmintic activity against gastrointestinal roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, some tapeworms and round nematodes, but also has a better efficacy against some parasites of the bronchial tree and the lungs (catarrhine worms and schistosoma lungworms).
Uses of Fenbendazole.
It is effective against gastrointestinal and respiratory nematodes in poultry. It is effective against chicken roundworm, capillary nematode and tapeworm when used at 8mg/kg daily for 6 days. The effective dose for turkey roundworm is 350mg/kg at one time, but if it is fed at 45mg/kg feed concentration for 6 days, it will expel all turkey roundworms, isobaric nematodes and closed capillary nematodes. The best deworming programme for pheasants, partridges, grouse, geese and ducks is 60mg/kg feed concentration for 6 days. For domestic pigeons naturally infected with the closed capillary nematode and pigeon roundworm,100mg/kg of mixed feed for 3-4 days gives an efficiency of nearly 100 per cent.
Antihelmintics. Broad-spectrum, highly effective, low-toxicity, anti-helminthic drug. It has strong anthelmintic effect on roundworm, nematode, tapeworm, cysticercus and liver flake trematode, etc. It not only kills worms, but also has great efficacy on migrating larvae, which are harmful to liver, lung and intestinal tract.
Fenbendazole is a benzimidazole anthelmintic, which not only has a high anthelmintic activity on gastrointestinal nematodes and larvae, but also has a good effect on nematodes, tapeworms and cestodes, and also has a strong ovicidal effect.
Pharmacological Effects of Fenbendazole.
Fenbendazole is a benzimidazole anthelmintic, which not only has a high anthelmintic activity against gastrointestinal nematode adults and larvae, but also has a good effect on webworms, schistosomes and tapeworms, as well as a very strong ovicidal effect.
Sheep: Highly effective against adult and larvae of blood spear nematode, Ostercercaillus, Trichuris trichiura,Cyprinus cepacia, Nematoda pinnatifida, Nematoda suprachyma, Nematoda chabaudi, Nematoda oesophagogastrica, Nematoda capitata and Nematoda reticulata in sheep.
It has good expulsion effect on Moniezia extensa and Moniezia bezoarii. For trematode, large dose is needed, such as 20mg/kg for 5 days, the efficiency of spear-shaped double-chambered nematode reaches 100%; 15mg/kg dose for 6 days, it has high efficiency for liver flake trematode.
Cattle: the anthelmintic spectrum of cattle is similar to that of sheep, but a higher dose is needed for trematodes,such as 7.5-10mg/kg for 6 days, which is effective against adult liver flake trematodes and cattle anterior and posterior discus trematodes.
Horse: It has good effect on horse ascaris, adult and larvae of horse sharp-tailed nematode, foetal Przewalski's nematode, common round nematode, toothless round nematode, horse round nematode and small round nematode.
Pig: It has good effect on the adult and larvae of Ascaris lumbricoides, red pig round nematode, oesophageal mouth nematode. It can be used for 3 consecutive days at 3mg/kg, and it also has significant killing effect on crown-tail nematode.
Dogs and cats: 25mg/kg for dogs has obvious effect on canine hookworm, hairy nematode and roundworm;50mg/kg for 14 days can kill migratory canine roundworm larvae; 3 days in a row can almost expel tapeworm.Cats with a therapeutic dose of 3 days, the cat roundworm, hookworm, tapeworm are highly effective.
Wildlife: Give 5mg/kg internally for 3~5 days to the deer infected with Ostercercercaillus, Cooper's nematode, fine-necked nematode, Trichinella, Trichinella, and Lung filariasis, with good effect, in addition to Moniezia tapeworms.
For all kinds of meat-eating raptors seriously infected with avian roundworm, saw spiny nematode, capillary nematode and trematode, it is effective against almost all of the above worms when taken at a dose of 25mg/kg for 3 consecutive days.
Production Method of Fenbendazole.
5-Phenylthio-2-nitroaniline was produced from 5-chloro-2-nitroaniline by reacting with phenylthiol in 91% yield. 3-Phenylthio-o-phenylenediamine was obtained by ferrous sulfate-iron powder reduction in 90% yield. Finally, the benzothiobenzimidazole was obtained by cyclisation with methyl S-methyl-cyanamidoformate.
