Amitraz Powder Usage and Synthesis.

Amitraz has a variety of mechanisms of toxicity, mainly inhibiting the activity of monoamine oxidase and inducing excitatory effects on non-cholinergic synapses in the central nervous system of pest mites. It is also highly active against mites resistant to other acaricides.

Uses and functions of Amitraz.

It is a broad-spectrum acaricide, mainly poisoning by touch, with stomach poison, fumigation, food refusal and repellent, with certain penetration and endosorption to plants, effective to young mites, adult mites and mite eggs,effective to mites resistant to some other acaricides, with good quick effect and strong persistence.

It is mainly used for the prevention and control of cotton red spider mite, cotton bollworm, red bollworm, apple andhawthorn red spider mite, citrus leaf mite, woodlouse, rusty wall louse, cattle, sheep, pig body louse, wall louse,scabies and chiggers, tea tree tarsal mite, beans, aubergine red spider mite and so on. If preventing and controlling red spider of cotton, use 20% emulsifiable oil 1000-2000 times of liquid to spray evenly from the egg hatching period to the blooming period of young mites.

It can be used when the red spider is concurrent with red bollworm or cotton bollworm, to a certain extent, it can do both insect and mite control, and it is safe for natural enemies such as ladybird beetles and lacewings in cotton field. For the control of citrus red spider mite and apple leaf mite, use 20% emulsifiable concentrate diluted to 1000-2000 times of water to spray.

For the control of citrus rust mite, spray with 20% emulsifiable concentrate diluted to 1000～1200 times of water,and for the control of woodlouse, spray with 1500 times of water. For the control of cattle, sheep and other livestock ticks, spray or dip at a concentration of 50-100mg/L.

Characteristic of Amitraz.

Pure product is white needle crystal. m.p. 88-89 ℃ (86-87 ℃), vapour pressure 5 × 10-5Pa (20 ℃), relative density of 0.3, saturated vapour concentration of 60μg/m3 (20 ℃). Soluble in acetone, xylene, methanol and other organic solvents, acetone 500g/L, toluene 300g/L; solubility in water 1mg/L.Non-flammable, non-explosive, more stable in neutral or alkaline, half-life of 6h in pH 7 water at 20℃, unstable in acidic medium, will slowly decompose and deteriorate when stored for a long period of time in humid environment.

Production Method of Bulk Amitraz Powder.

Produced by the reaction of 2,4-dimethylaniline, triethyl orthoformate and methylamine. Raw material consumption: 2,4-dimethylaniline (100%) 350kg/t, triethyl orthoformate (100%) 500kg/t, monomethylamine 70kg/t,xylene 750kg/t.
