Like sorbic acid, it is also an acidic preservative and needs to be used with caution. It has a strong inhibitory effect on spoilage bacteria and mold, is easily soluble in water and has extremely low toxicity, so it is widely used.

Potassium sorbate is mainly used as a food preservative, and is also used for cosmetics preservation and feed mildew prevention. It has a strong inhibitory effect on spoilage bacteria and mold, and is easily soluble in water and is widely used. Its antibacterial effect is stronger than its bactericidal effect. The lower the pH value, the stronger the antibacterial effect.

Sorbic acid (potassium) can effectively inhibit the activity of mold, yeast and aerobic bacteria, and can also prevent the growth and reproduction of harmful microorganisms such as Clostridium botulinum, Staphylococcus, and Salmonella, but it is almost ineffective against beneficial microorganisms such as anaerobic spore bacteria and Lactobacillus acidophilus. Its inhibitory effect is stronger than its bactericidal effect, thereby effectively extending the shelf life of food and maintaining the original flavor of food. Its antiseptic effect is 5-10 times that of similar products such as sodium benzoate.

Product Methods of Potassium Sorbate.

Add sorbic acid to the reactor, then add water with a mass percentage of 66% of sorbic acid, and dropwise add 49% potassium hydroxide solution at 45°C until the reaction liquid has a Ph value of 8. The reaction takes about 45 minutes. Add a certain amount of activated carbon, vacuum filter, and evaporate the filtrate at 40-45°C under reduced pressure for 3-4 hours until the required temperature is reached, then heat to 70°C and discharge. Centrifugal dehydration results in crystallization, and the mother liquor is recovered; finally, the product is dried at 105°C.
