Ginkgo Biloba Extract Usage and Synthesis.
Ginko Biloba Extract (GBE) is a class of products enriched with active ingredients extracted from the leaves of Ginkgo (Ginkgo biloba L.) as raw materials, using appropriate solvents.
Various preparations made from GBE are widely used in the fields of drugs, health products, food additives, functional beverages, cosmetics and so on.
This product is one of the most successful cases of botanical medicine (belonging to Chinese medicine) developed by modern science and technology. It is listed in Chinese Pharmacopoeia, American Pharmacopoeia and European Pharmacopoeia.
Uses and functions of Ginkgo Biloba Extract.
1. Acute and chronic cerebral insufficiency and its sequelae: stroke, inattention, memory loss, dementia.
2, ear blood flow and nerve disorders: tinnitus, vertigo, hearing loss, ear labyrinth syndrome.

Drug interactions of Ginkgo Biloba Extract.
Ginkgo biloba extract is a commonly used drug in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, often combined with antiplatelet, sedative, antihypertensive and lipid-lowering drugs.
Ginkgo and its monomer components quercetin, kaempferol and isorhamnetin and other flavonoids have inhibitory effect on CYP3A4, CYP2C9, CYP2B6, etc., and its monomer components ginkgolides A, B and bilobalide and other lactones have inducing effect on CYP1A2, CYP2B1/2, CYP3A2, CYP2C19, UGT1A1, etc., and are P -glycoprotein substrate, and drug co-use is easy to trigger drug interactions, and the role of the complex, so need to attract extensive attention.
In recent years, there have been reports of individual cases of bleeding caused by taking Ginkgo biloba preparations or combining with other anticoagulant drugs.
Ginkgo biloba extract inhibits PAF and causes bleeding, of which ginkgolide B is considered to be the most important component in inhibiting PAF.
However, there are no corresponding controlled studies. Currently commercially available ginkgo biloba products vary widely in composition and amount. The dose as well as the exact amount of ginkgolide B associated with bleeding is still unknown.
Moreover, there may be other ingredients in the products that are capable of causing bleeding. Therefore, further research in this area is needed.
Therefore, based on the results of the current study, cases of bleeding caused by Ginkgo biloba extract preparations should be communicated to physicians to draw sufficient attention.
And try to avoid ginkgo biloba extract preparations with anticoagulant drugs such as aspirin and warfarin.
Extraction method of Bulk Ginkgo Biloba Extract.
1. Ethanol extraction - large pore resin adsorption separation method to pick out impurities and mouldy leaves, washed, chopped, with 70% ethanol reflux extraction, extract, filtered, decompression recovery of ethanol, high-speed centrifugation to slag, add appropriate amount of pure water dilution, added to the large pore adsorbent resin column, water elution until the eluate is clear and bright light, and then eluted with a certain concentration of ethanol, the collection of the eluate, concentration under reduced pressure, vacuum drying that is obtained.
2. Acetone extraction - lead hydroxide precipitation method ginkgo biloba extracted with 60% acetone, cooled and filtered, extracted with carbon tetrachloride, add butanone and mixing, separation and precipitation of acetone - butanone phase, in the ketone phase and then add solid ammonia sulphate stirring, filtration of solid substances, evaporation filtrate under reduced pressure to a concentration of solids of 20% -60%, diluted to a concentration of 50% denatured ethanol to a concentration of solids of 10%. Add a suspension of lead hydroxide and filter off the precipitate.
Concentrate the filtrate to half volume under reduced pressure, then add ammonia sulphate and butanone to the concentrate under stirring, and precipitate the butanone-ethanol phase at the end of stirring; separate the butanone-ethanol phase from the aqueous phase, and then add butanone to the aqueous phase, stirring, and precipitate the butanone-ethanol phase, which is combined in the above butanone-ethanol phase.
Add ammonia sulphate under stirring, mix and separate the precipitated aqueous phase, dry the butanone-ethanol phase with sodium sulphate, evaporate to dryness under reduced pressure, dissolve the denatured viscous residual liquid with denatured ethanol, leave for 12 hours to separate the precipitate precipitated, evaporate under reduced pressure, and dry in vacuum to obtain.
