Ferric ammonium citrate raw materials Ferric ammonium citrate Powder
Product Overview:
Ammonium ferric citrate, also known as ferric ammonium citrate, there are two kinds of brown and green, with odourless, salty and iron taste, very easy to absorb moisture, because the light can be reduced to ferrous salts, the solution state is more unstable, easily soluble in water, insoluble in ethanol, ethyl ether and other organic solvents, the aqueous solution is neutral, green is more prone to be reduced in the presence of light than brown. The brown scale-like ammonium ferric citrate has higher iron content, while the green scale-like ammonium ferric citrate has lower iron content.

Ferric ammonium citrate Powder Usage and Synthesis.
The brown product is used as a blood tonic to treat iron deficiency anaemia; it can be used as a food additive, according to Japan's "Food Additives Public Definition Book", the iron content is 16.5%-21.2%.
Brown and green products are chemically sensitive substances, green products are more light-sensitive than brown products.
Paper coated with green ferric ammonium citrate and erythrocyanide (potassium ferricyanide) is known as blue tanning paper.
In the exposure, citrate within the trivalent iron for the original bivalent, water that is produced Teng's blue, so the light part of the blue, not the part of the light is still white, can be obtained from the blue background white line pattern.
Uses of Ferric ammonium citrate.
Ammonium ferric citrate is an excellent nutrient fortifier, which can be used as a blood tonic to treat iron deficiency anaemia, and is widely used in food additives, pharmaceuticals and many other fields. Ammonium ferric citrate in brown scale form contains higher iron content, while ammonium ferric citrate in green scale form contains lower iron content.
Ammonium ferric citrate can be used as a nutritional supplement, anti-caking agent, iron fortifier, iron for anti-anaemia (1-2g per oral dose). It can be added to biscuits and milk powder. It is not suitable to be used in food that should not be coloured. In addition, it can also be used in photographic industry, pharmaceutical industry, bacterial culture medium, aluminium measurement, photography, blue printing, blood replenishment and so on.
Characteristic of Ferric ammonium citrate.
Ammonium ferric citrate is a complex salt of unknown structure consisting of iron, ammonia and citric acid. It has various compositions, depending on the conditions of manufacture, and usually consists of 16.5 to 18.5 per cent iron; about 9 per cent ammonia and 65 per cent citric acid. Transparent thin scales or granules of brown, reddish-brown or sauce-red colour, or brownish-yellow powder.
Odourless or slightly ammonia odour and mild iron metallic taste. Easily deliquesced in air and affected by light (hydrolysis). Prone to mould. Extremely soluble in water (1g/0.5m1), aqueous solution nearly neutral, insoluble in ethanol and ether.5% aqueous solution of Ph value of about 5.0 ~ 8.0.
Product Method of Bulk Ferric ammonium citrate Powder.
Dissolve the iron hydroxide in citric acid, and with ammonia and, then after drying and obtained.
(1) Preparation of iron hydroxide add ferrous sulphate into water, add sulphuric acid under stirring, then add sodium chlorate aqueous solution. Then stir vigorously, the temperature rises to above 80 ℃, and then add sodium chlorate.
Stirring until the reaction is terminated (check with potassium ferricyanide does not show ferrous reaction), get iron sulfate solution. Add this solution to the reaction tank, add sodium hydroxide solution, stirring vigorously, the reaction temperature of 80-90 ℃, the reaction solution from viscous to thin, add water to wash until the sulfate and chlorine meet the requirements. Drain to get iron hydroxide.
(2) ferric ammonium citrate preparation of citric acid, iron hydroxide and water into the reaction tank, stirring, the temperature is controlled at 95 ° C or more, holding 1h. Then cooled to 50 ° C, stirring through the ammonia.
Let stand for more than 48h. Take the supernatant and filter, the filtrate was concentrated into a paste and dried at 80°C to obtain ammonium ferric citrate. The total yield to ferrous sulphate was 73-75%.
