Calcium gluconate is an important organic calcium, mainly used as calcium fortifier and nutrient, buffer, curing agent, chelating agent of food, the application prospect is very broad.
Calcium gluconate is a calcium supplement, calcium can maintain normal neuromuscular excitability, promote the secretion of acetylcholine from nerve endings, when the blood consumption of calcium is lowered, neuromuscular excitability can be elevated and convulsions can occur, while high blood calcium reduces the excitability and weakness can occur.
Uses of Calcium Gluconate.
1. As a food additive, it can be used as buffering agent, solidifying agent, chelating agent and nutritional supplement. According to the "Hygienic Standard for the Use of Food Nutritional Enrichment" (1993) issued by the Ministry of Health of China, it can be used in cereals and their products, beverages, and its dosage is 18-38g, kg.
2. As a medicine, it can reduce the permeability of capillaries, increase the density, maintain the normal excitability of nerves and muscles, strengthen the contraction force of the heart muscle, and help the formation of bone mass.
For allergic diseases, such as urticaria; eczema; pruritus; contact dermatitis, as well as serum sickness; angioneurotic oedema as an adjuvant therapy. Also indicated for convulsions and magnesium toxicity due to low blood calcium. Also used in the prevention and treatment of calcium deficiency, etc.

Product Method of Bulk Calcium Gluconate Powder.
Air-catalysed oxidation method takes starch double enzyme hydrolysate as raw material, adjusts pH to 9~10 with dilute lye, adds palladium-carbon catalyst, passes air oxidation at 45~50℃, and flows dilute lye to maintain pH.
After the reaction, static filtration, filtrate concentration to the relative density of 1.34 ~ 1.38, cooling crystallisation, separation of sodium gluconate. After decolourisation, the mother liquor was concentrated to a relative density of 1.4 to 1.42, and cooled to crystallise and separate. Sodium gluconate was added to water to form a 35% solution, and pure gluconic acid solution was obtained by removing sodium ions with 732-type cation exchange resin.
Neutralise to neutral with calcium carbonate at 70~75℃, add appropriate amount of activated carbon to decolourise, leave to stand, filter.
The filtrate is concentrated to a relative density of 1.148 ~ 1.15, static, crystallization, separation, and washed with a small amount of water to obtain calcium gluconate; mother liquor decolorized and concentrated to a relative density of 1.16 ~ 1.18, static, crystallization, separation. The yield to starch was about 77.8%.
