    Product Overview:

Calcium hydrogen phosphate (also known as dicalcium phosphate) is a compound that usually exists as a dihydrate (with the chemical formula CaHPO4 - 2H2O), but can be converted to an anhydrous form by heating. Calcium phosphate is virtually insoluble in water, with a solubility of only 0.02 g/100 mL at 25 °C. It is also a soluble in water.

    Product Details

What is Calcium Hydrogen Phosphate Powder?

Calcium Hydrogen Phosphate is a calcium salt of phosphoric acid. It’s typically produced through the reaction of calcium hydroxide with phosphoric acid, resulting in a powder that is odorless, tasteless, and highly stable. It exists in both anhydrous and dihydrate forms, with the latter (CaHPO₄·2H₂O) being common in food and pharmaceutical grades.

    Key Characteristics:

    • Appearance: Fine white crystalline powder

    • Solubility: Low solubility in water, soluble in dilute acids

    • Purity: High-grade versions exceed 98% purity

    • Safety: Generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by regulatory bodies like the FDA and EFSA

Primary Applications of Calcium Hydrogen Phosphate Powder

    1. Nutritional & Food Industry

    • Dietary Supplements: Serves as an excellent source of calcium and phosphorus in vitamin tablets, fortified foods, and infant formula.

    • Food Additive (E341(ii)): Used as a leavening agent in baked goods, a dough conditioner, and a stabilizer in beverages.

    • Animal Feed: Enhances bone development and eggshell strength in livestock and poultry.

    2. Pharmaceuticals
    • Excipient: Acts as a diluent in tablet manufacturing due to its compressibility and flow properties.

    • Dental Products: Found in toothpaste as a gentle polishing agent and remineralizing component.

    3. Industrial Uses
    • Ceramics & Glass: Functions as a flux to lower melting temperatures.

    • Fertilizers: Provides essential phosphorus in slow-release fertilizers.

    • Fire Retardants: Incorporated into materials to suppress flame propagation.

Product Method of Bulk Calcium Hydrogen Phosphate Powder.

    (1) Water extraction of ordinary calcium superphosphate method. It is obtained from agricultural common calcium superphosphate as raw material by multi-stage water extraction, defluorination and neutralization with lime milk. Water (solid-liquid ratio of 1.0-4.1) will be soluble phosphorus pentoxide in calcium superphosphate extracted from the solid phase by multi-stage extraction.

Sodium chloride or activated silica is added at the same time as the extraction for defluorination purification. The phosphogypsum slag was then removed by plate and frame press filtration. The filtrate is neutralized with lime milk containing 6%-8% CaO, and the neutralized solution is filtered and dried to a finished product after standing.

    (2) Sulfuric acid extraction of phosphoric acid direct neutralization method. Phosphoric acid extracted from sulfuric acid after metering into the defluoridation tank, add defluoridating agent to remove fluorine, arsenic, lead and so on. After defluoridation of phosphoric acid into a neutralization tank, with lime milk neutralization, filtration slag as a by-product of fertilizer calcium phosphate, filtrate into the second section of the neutralization tank, with lime milk to continue to neutralize, filtration of filtrate back to the preparation of milk of lime, the filter cake by the air drying, crushed to become a product.

Phosphoric acid can also be obtained by direct neutralization with limestone: the calcined limestone into 70% -80% of the phosphoric acid, at 40-50 ℃ under the mixing and stirring reaction to generate a mixture of calcium hydrogen phosphate and calcium dihydrogen phosphate. After curing, it is chopped with a cutter and stacked in a maturation store to mature for 48h.

During this time, the remaining calcium carbonate reacts with dicalcium phosphate to form calcium hydrogen phosphate. The ripened material contains 15%-20% water and is baked in a rotary kiln until it contains less than 3% water, then crushed to obtain the finished product.

    FAQ: Calcium Hydrogen Phosphate Powder

Q1: Is Calcium Hydrogen Phosphate Powder safe for human consumption?

A: Yes, when manufactured to food-grade standards (FCC), it is generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the FDA and approved as food additive E341(ii) in the EU. Always source from certified suppliers.

Q2: What is the difference between anhydrous and dihydrate forms?

A: The dihydrate form (CaHPO₄·2H₂O) contains water molecules, making it suitable for food and pharma due to better compressibility. The anhydrous form is often used in industrial applications where moisture sensitivity is a concern.

Q3: How should I store this powder to maintain quality?

A: Store in a cool, dry place away from moisture and acidic substances. Use sealed containers to prevent caking and contamination.

Q4: Can this powder be used in organic products?

A: In the EU and US, synthetic calcium phosphates are generally not permitted in certified organic foods. Check with regulations like USDA Organic or EU ECOCERT for specific restrictions.

Q5: What is the typical particle size available?

A: Ranges from 50 to 300 microns. Fine powders (≤ 100 microns) are ideal for tableting, while coarser grades suit animal feed and fertilizers.
