    A method for the preparation of α-carotene, the preparation method comprising: performing a rearrangement reaction of diethyl 3-methyl-5-(2,6,6-trimethyl-2-cyclohexen-1-yl)-1,4-pentadienylphosphonate under nitrogen protection in an organic solvent in the presence of a base at a temperature from -30 to 30°C; and then adding decabicyclohexane bis-formaldehyde to the mixture following the rearrangement reaction of step (I) to undergo a Wittig-Horner condensation reaction at a temperature of 0-30°C to obtain α-carotene.
