    Product Overview:

Sodium benzoate, also known as sodium benzoate, is a commonly used food preservative in China's food industry, odourless or slightly with the smell of benzoin, sweet and astringent. It is stable in air, and can absorb moisture when exposed to air. It is naturally found in blueberries, apples, plums, cranberries, cranberries, dried plums, cinnamon and cloves, and its bactericidal property is weaker than benzoic acid, and the bactericidal power of 1.180g of sodium benzoate is equivalent to 1g of benzoic acid.

API Raw Materials Sodium Benzoate Powder Details

    Sodium Benzoate Usage and Synthesis.

Sodium benzoate, also known as sodium benzoate, is a commonly used food preservative in China's food industry, odourless or slightly with the smell of benzoin, sweet and astringent.

It is stable in air and can absorb moisture when exposed to air. It exists naturally in blueberries, apples, plums, cranberries, cranberries, dried plums, cinnamon and cloves, and its bactericidal property is weaker than benzoic acid, and the bactericidal power of 1.180g of sodium benzoate is equivalent to about 1g of benzoic acid.

In an acidic environment, sodium benzoate has a significant inhibitory effect on a variety of microorganisms, pH 3.5, 0.05% solution can completely inhibit the growth of yeast, but when the pH is above 5.5, the effect on many moulds and yeasts is poor. It has almost no effect in alkaline solutions.

When sodium benzoate enters the body, in the process of biological transformation, it combines with glycine to become uric acid, or with glucuronic acid to become glucosinolates, and all of them are discharged from the urine, without accumulation in the body.

Within the normal dosage range, it has no toxic effect on human body and is a safer preservative. It can be used in carbonated beverages, concentrated fruit juice, margarine, gum mother sugar gelatin base, jam, jelly, soy sauce and so on.

The Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI) for humans is <5 mg/kg body weight (in benzoic acid).

Sodium benzoate is lipophilic, easy to penetrate the cell membrane into the cell body, interfere with the permeability of the cell membrane, inhibit the absorption of amino acids into the cell membrane; into the cell body ionisation acidification of intracellular alkali storage, and inhibit the activity of cellular respiratory enzymes, to prevent the acetyl-coenzyme A condensation reaction, so as to play a food preservation purposes.

Uses and functions of Sodium Benzoate.

1.Sodium benzoate can be used as food additives (preservatives), bactericides in the pharmaceutical industry, mordant in the dyestuff industry, plasticiser in the plastics industry, and also used as intermediates in organic synthesis, such as fragrances.

    2. Co-solvent for serum bilirubin test.

    3. Used in pharmaceutical industry and plant genetic research, also used as dye intermediates, fungicides and preservatives.

    Sodium Benzoate

Mechanism of action of Sodium Benzoate.

Benzoic acid preservatives act with their undissociated molecules. Undissociated benzoic acid is highly lipophilic, easily passes through the cell membrane, enters the cell, interferes with the permeability of the cell membrane of microorganisms such as moulds and bacteria, and impedes the uptake of amino acids by the cell membrane. Benzoic acid molecules entering the cell acidify the intracellular alkali storage and inhibit the activity of respiratory enzyme system in the microbial cell, thus acting as an antiseptic (HOU Zhenjian. 2004).

Benzoic acid is a broad-spectrum anti-microbial reagent, which has a good effect on yeasts, moulds, and some bacteria, and has an inhibitory effect on all kinds of bacteria within the maximum permissible range of use, below pH 4.5.

    Sodium Benzoate Raw Materials

Product Method of  Bulk Sodium Benzoate Powder.

Obtained by neutralising benzoic acid with sodium bicarbonate. Add water and sodium bicarbonate to the neutralisation pot, heat to boiling to dissolve into sodium bicarbonate solution. Put benzoic acid under stirring, until the pH of the reaction solution is 7-7.5. heat to make carbon dioxide escape, add activated carbon decolourisation for half an hour. Filtering, the filtrate is concentrated and slowly put into the liquid disc of the tableting machine, the tablets are dried by roller drying, crushed, and sodium benzoate is obtained. Consumption quota benzoic acid (99.5%) 1045kg/t, sodium bicarbonate (98%) 610kg/t.
