Magnesium Oxide Powder Usage and Synthesis.
Magnesium oxide is commonly known as bitter earth, also known as magnesium oxide. It is a typical alkaline earth metal oxide, chemical formula MgO. white powder, melting point is 2852℃, boiling point is 3600℃, relative density is 3.58(25℃).
Soluble in acid and ammonium salt solution. Slowly acts with water to form magnesium hydroxide. Can dissolve in carbon dioxide aqueous solution to produce magnesium bicarbonate.
In the air can gradually absorb water and carbon dioxide, heating to release irritating fumes.
Magnesite (MgCO3), dolomite (MgCO3-CaCO3) and seawater are the main raw materials for the production of magnesium oxide. Thermal decomposition of magnesite or dolomite yields magnesium oxide.
With slaked lime treatment of seawater to get magnesium hydroxide precipitation, burning magnesium hydroxide to get magnesium oxide.
Can also be used in the comprehensive use of seawater in the magnesium chloride brine block or bromine brine as raw materials, plus sodium hydroxide or sodium carbonate and so on to generate magnesium hydroxide or alkaline magnesium carbonate precipitation, and then burned to get magnesium oxide.
Uses and functions of Magnesium Oxide.
In medicine, it is used as antacid and laxative for hyperacidity, gastric and duodenal ulcer. Also used in glass, dyes, phenolic plastics and other industries. Food grade is used as decolouring agent in sugar refining, Ph adjusting agent in ice cream powder etc.
Widely used as high-temperature heat-resistant material. Used as raw material for translucent ceramic crucible and substrate in ceramic field. It is used as filler for magnetic devices, insulating materials and various carriers in the field of electronic materials and electricity.
Used as a ceramic substrate, the thermal conductivity is 2 times higher than that of alumina, and the loss of electrolyte is only 1/10 of that of alumina, and it can also be used as a filler for heat-resistant paints.

Vapour phase method reacts high purity magnesium metal with oxygen to produce crystal nuclei, and then the particles continue to grow to produce high purity micronised magnesium oxide.
Crude raw materials containing more than 80% (by weight) of magnesium oxide are dissolved with inorganic acid (sulphuric acid, hydrochloric acid, nitric acid) at a molar ratio of 1:2 to make magnesium salts of inorganic acid. Refined to remove the impurities therein, under oxygen atmosphere for pressurised heating treatment, then washed, dehydrated, dried, and heated at 1100 ℃ for 1h, to produce high purity magnesium oxide.
