Calcium propionate is the normal intermediate product of animal body metabolism, it is safer for animals to feed on. It has a wide range of antimicrobial effect on mold, enzyme bacteria and bacteria, inhibit microbial reproduction, can prevent moldy feed, can be used as food and feed mold inhibitor and bread and pastry preservation agent.
As a feed additive, it can effectively inhibit moldy feed and prolong the preservation period of feed, and if it is used with other inorganic salts, it can also improve the appetite of livestock and milk production of cows, and its additive amount is less than 0.3% of the compound feed (in terms of propionic acid).
China's regulations as a food additive, according to GB2760-86 implementation, the scope of its use only bread, vinegar, soy sauce, soy products, the maximum use of 2.5g/kg.
Uses of Calcium Propionate powder.
Calcium propionate is also an acidic food preservative, and its bacteriostatic effect is affected by the environmental Ph value. The minimum inhibitory concentration is 0.01% at Ph 5.0 and 0.5% at Ph 6.5. It has strong inhibitory effect on various types of molds, gram-negative bacilli or aerobic bacilli in acidic medium.
It is effective in preventing the production of aflatoxin, while it is almost ineffective against yeast. In the food industry, it is mainly used in vinegar, soy sauce, bread, pastry and soybean products, the maximum use (propionic acid, the same below) 2.5g/kg; in the raw noodles and wet products, the maximum use of 0.25g/kg. it can also be used as feed mold inhibitor.
It can be used as preservative of bread, pastry and cheese, and antifungal agent of feed. As a food preservative, propionate and calcium propionate are mainly used in bread because sodium propionate raises the ph value of bread and delays the fermentation of raw noodles; sodium propionate is mostly used in pastries because synthetic bulking agents are used to bulking up pastries, and there is no problem with the development of yeast caused by the rise in pH value. When used as a feed preservative, sodium propionate is better than calcium propionate. However, calcium propionate is more stable than sodium propionate.
Propionate in food in addition to bread, pastries, cheese, etc., can also be used for soy sauce mold, inhibit re-fermentation effect. In medicine, propionate can be made into bulk, solution and ointment to treat diseases caused by skin parasitic mold. The ointment (liquid) contains 12.3% sodium propionate and the bulk contains 15% calcium propionate.

The mother liquor can be returned to the evaporation kettle set for 2 to 3 times and then discarded.
