Sodium tripolyphosphate is used in detergents, as an auxiliary, soap synergist and prevent bar soap crystallisation and frosting, industrial water softener, tanning pre-tanning agent, dyeing auxiliaries, oil well digging mud control agent, oil stain prevention agent for paper making, effective dispersing agent for the treatment of suspensions in paints, kaolin, magnesium oxide, calcium carbonate and so on. Edible grade sodium tripolyphosphate can be used as food improver for various fish and meat products, clarifying agent for beverages.

1, chelating effect on heavy metal ions: heavy metal ions in the water during the washing process can be combined with the detergent molecules to form insoluble metal salts, so that the washing ability to reduce, or even completely lose its effect. Therefore, it is necessary to add chelating agent in the detergent which can make the heavy metal ions contained in the water become harmless substances.
Sodium tripolyphosphate has a strong chelating effect on heavy metal ions, which can seal them up and eliminate their unfavourable effects on washing. In addition, it can also capture the dirt contained in a variety of metal components, in the washing process to make the dirt dissociation, can be used as soap synergist and prevent the bar soap grease precipitation and frosting.
2, the role of degumming, emulsification and dispersion of dirt: dirt often contains human secretions (mainly proteins and fats), but also contains sand, dust and so on from the outside world. Sodium tripolyphosphate has swelling and solubilising effect on proteins in the dirt, so as to play the effect of degumming; it promotes emulsification of fats; it disperses solid dirt; it has strong emulsification of lubricating oils and fats, and it can be used to regulate the PH value of buffer soap.
Preparation method of Sodium Tripolyphosphate.
Sodium tripolyphosphate is traditionally prepared by neutralising hot phosphoric acid with a mass fraction of 75% of H3PO4 in a suspension of soda ash to produce a neutralised slurry with Na/P of 5:3, which is held at 70°C to 90°C; after which the slurry obtained is sprayed into a polymerisation furnace to be dehydrated at high temperatures and condensed into sodium tripolyphosphate at about 400°C.

Dissolve industrial sodium tripolyphosphate in water at 60~70℃, prepare a solution of 17%~22%, and filter to remove insoluble impurities; then the product is obtained by vacuum concentration, cooling crystallisation, separation and drying.
